Arizona Chickens

Bob's Henhouse :

TT, I've been watering the weeds in the desert by my house to try and get something for the chickens to eat besides store bought feed. I wish I had some fast growing weeds.

Still don't have my garden or seeds started.

Thought I'd get it started today, or get the portable greenhouse set up, but we were getting sustained winds of 35+ mph today out here, and it would have blown over and broken the support rods like it did last year. Have to make stronger ones out of PVC after I get it set up. But, my neighbor came over to ask me to bury a horse he had to put down today so didn't have time to do gardening anyway. Bob's backhoe and burial service. I guess it's like owning a truck, everyone wants you to help them move. Except he pays me for the service.

Thought I'd get my gardening done today too, but it's windy and I'm burried in papers, laundry, grocery shopping and meal planning.

I planted it in my yard for my tortoises from seeds I got from native seeds. The tortoises loved it until the chickens came along and ate it all.

It still pops up in the garden and the front yard(where the chickens can't normally go) and I give it to the tortoises and chickens in a more controlled way.
I haven't eaten it myself.

I wasn't able to find any purslane seeds on Native Seeds.

I was happy to have gotten to meet you today. Those Jersey Giants are very beautiful. Your place is beautiful, I can't wait until we have grass. As soon as I got home there was two more eggs. I also got to meet lyongirl. My 4 Ameruacanas and Silkie went to live with her.

I still have hens available.
3 Phoenix hens (roo available)
1 Frizzle cochin hen (roo avail too) RED
2 Silkie roosters
3 black Frizzle chicks (about 8-10 weeks old)
1 black Frizzle rooster
1 red Frizzle rooster
1 white Juvenile Silkie (looks like a pullet so far)
Several (I didn't count) 10-12 week old Silkies
2 silver laced Wyandotte juveniles (looks like 1 pullet/1 roo at this point)
Silkie chicks (from new years hatch) colors: white, porcelain and black
5 Mottled Houdans (4 hens and a roo)-laying if interested I also have a chick that can go with these (the rooster is a jerk).
1 white crested black polish rooster.

I need some space for others that are getting close to laying age.

NUKE - I have 2 young Wyandottes if your interested.

My chicks have learned that when they see me they get food, so they are liking me.

And then there are those "lap pullets" from Crystal. I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THEM!!!.. the little FBCM flew up into my arms today!

yeah, I'm praying no frost this year... so far so good!

It was so nice to meet you Vanessa and I'm already in love with all the chickens we got from you! I was just sitting out there with them and we def. decided that the Phoenix hen is our new favorite. She's just so cute and sweet. The silkie has still been sulking in a corner but I did catch her out and about for a little bit eating some treats. I might have a friend who would be interested in some of your birds but she's not sure if she wants to get them quite yet. If she decides to I'll send you a message to see if you are still getting rid of any more. Thank you again for all the lovely ladies!

You guys are making me sad.

My garden has been taken over by bermuda grass and I don't know what to do with it.
I let the chickens in hoping they would dig it all up but they aren't doing a thorough enough job.
Maybe I'll figure it out in time for Fall planting or, if I'm lucky, in time to plant my favorite... okra.
