oh my gosh, those are the funniest pictures. i dread ever having to give my chckens a bath. but they do the same kind of dust bathing that it's gotta happen at some point! just not today. or in the next month. i have new chicks coming in just about 2 weeks! i will have some extras for sale, but not until they are ready to be outside and my kids(and me) pick which ones we want to keep. PM me if interrested.
now please tell me that those of you with delawares find them to be super in your face, inquisitive and down right annoying! i have one in particular that NEEDS to be hugged, that's fine, i'll bend down and hug her(she won't let me pick her up) then she follows me around the yard trying to figure out a way to jump on me. i bent down just for a moment and the darn chicken flew on top of my head. there she was, just standing on my head.
why????????????????????? these dellies are something else.

Our first set of chicks was like that! We only have one left thanks to the coyotes and my dog, but they all outgrew it eventually. It drove me crazy, though! They were just mutts as far as I know. They were just flighty. They would fly over the fence in the backyard, too. Once they get a little meat on their bones, it's harder to fly up all the time. Maybe they think they are parakeets!
Our silkie girl wants to be held ALL the time. But, our polish roo is like your silly girl. He wants lots of attention and runs up when we go outside, but he doesn't really like to be held. We aren't as nice as you, though. We pick him up anyway.

Definately!!! Some may call it friendly but really it is annoying. I have three. My handicapped sister calls them the "Biter's" and they stress her out. I've tried to teach her to push on their backs and hold them to the ground, to calmly and (hopefully) gently push them away, but her favorite is to pick them up and throw them away from her. Unfortunately they seem to like this and just keep coming back for more. They are constantly pecking at everything and everyone. I like to hang out in the coop with the chickens and I gotta admit that they make it less enjoyable. They'd better be laying machines cuz personality wise they're first in line for the crock pot.
Well, we got the tomatoes and peppers replaced that froze, as well as flowers in the front put in.
On Friday we have our German exchange students arriving. They'll be here from the 18th until March 2nd.
Our house will be full as my in-laws arrive on the 24th and fly out on the 1st.
My lettuce is really growing and I pray it soon starts to look like GdCs. More peas are coming up out of the ground that I planted 3 weeks ago. I love seeing those little rows break the soil.
Next week I have patients scheduled from Mon-Saturday so that's a good thing.
Even with my mountain injuries from Thurs, my wife worked me so hard yesterday, I'll need all day to recover.

My 3 dellies are 6 1/2 months old and they each lay probably 6 days a week. give or take. so they are dependable, they are bigger than i thought they would be and they definately make it hard to clean out the run. i make nice piles of crap and turn around and they have it scattered everywhere, they peck the paint off my house, chase my cochins and peck everything in sight and scare my kids. but they are not mean, they are like the annoying little brother who won't stop poking you!
