Arizona Chickens

Let me know what you find! I'd actually drive just about anywhere in the state to get some eggs. My inlaws live in Phoenix (Peoria) and we frequently drive up for the weekend and it wouldn't be anything to take a drive up where you are. How hot does it get up in the Chino valley? I really want birds from a bloodline that has experienced many generations of scorching heat. I'm thinking about this now so that I can line up a source for when I eventually get a broody.

Thanks cluckin_crazy!

Chino is significantly cooler than we are. It's North of Prescott. The woman I just emailed had at least a few generations... I don't know how many for sure but she had been doing it for at least 4 years in Gilbert. Even if she doesn't hatch chicks anymore, as long as she still has her adults, I'm sure she would be willing to sell some eggs.

I've been absent for a few days. I signed up for the gym and got my Hiney kicked.

I've got some pips in the incubator. 1 Jersey Giant so far and a bunch of Houdans (figures all Houdans will hatch since I'm not wanting to keep any of them). Hatch day is tomorrow. I'm super excited to see what comes out of these eggs. I'm hoping all 6 blue eggs hatch.

ETA: I have a pip on a blue egg too, I just didn't see it! I think this hatch is almost as exciting as my first hatch.lol. Speaking of first hatch, I have an egg in there from my first hatched chicks. Its a surprise and I'm eager to find out what's inside!

I briefly glanced at the mini bator with the quail eggs in it this morning. I was running late so I didn't even turn the light on (in the room - of course the light in the bator is on!) to inspect for any movement... I'm thinking that this bator is so unreliable that nothing is going to happen. Today is the day, if it does. How long after due date do you leave things in to give them a little more time?

GDC, just heard back from the Delaware lady... she isn't the Delaware lady anymore, sadly.

Leave them a few days. Hatch day is 16-18 days. If you've had low temps, it will be later. If nothing happens...I have 600+ eggs available a week, so there's no shortage where they came from.

OK...chiming in....I think that I am being talked about

We had about 25 days of weather from 95 to 105 last summer.....We are often in the 90's or more all summer long. So not as hot as Phoenix but....it still gets hot here. We do get lower temps in the winter and we do get some snows. I don't think that this is significantly cooler...but you might
