ALL DAY????????? I thought they were supposed to stay in there for 3 weeks and only come out for about a half hour. That was a loooooooong break she took. If I put eggs under her, would they even hatch with her doing that?

How sad. I guess you would not suggest I try to make the styrofoam bator for myself them? It would be painful to me to have bad hatches.. Turkey raising sounds like a BIG project..

I used to have a homemade, and it wasn't the greatest experience for me. My hatch rate was under 20%, I got lots of deformed chicks and other problems. I know lots of people can make it work, but I couldn't. I kept telling myself this is not rocket science. Since I've gotten a manufacturd incubators I've had only one bad hatch (it involved at still air).

I will be taking them off the turner Monday and put them in the hatcher. I will let you know the progress. Hopefully it will be a good hatch. These are the first chicken eggs to go in the sportman. Prior, its only been quail.

Too excited about the thought of having peeps.. I will keep my fingers crossed. I looked at several of the homemade projects, but I'm leery. One hen from my other flock laid this morning and one of the hens was pecking the egg. Do you think she was trying to break it? It was hot too like it was just laid or she had been sitting on it.

We have 1 hen that goes broody she did it about 3x & I broke her pretty easy of it just putting her out off the nest & taking her eggs/the last time We gave her 2 eggs she hatched 1/ but of the 3 weeks she came off the nest 2x for a pretty extended period of time was thinking of putting eggs in bator but she pulled it off.

I'm making dog food out of a Phoenix rooster today. I've been attacked by this butt head for the last time. Today he nailed me when my back was turned and three more times from the front. I was holding the baby too and everytime I tried to get away he nailed me in the back of the leg. He had to have hit me 6 or 7 times before I made it back to the house. I'm so angry about it.

If they are young birds then she may just being trying to figure out the new thing that she is experiencing, but I would keep a very close eye on her.
