Arizona Chickens

Welcome deserthens from Tucson. I was born in Tucson and love the place. I was wondering do your hens really eat cottage cheese? I gave mine some yogurt and they ran from it..0000.

That's funny. What flavor was it? Maybe they did not like the brand? (just kidding!). Mine will actually almost inhale plain Kefir joghurt I give them evey now and then. It's great probiotics.

It was vanilla. Something I picked up for the baby when she was on antibiotics. Come to think of it, she didn't eat it either. I have some cottage cheese that I was mad I'm going to have to throw if the family doesn't eat. But I'm not on a mission out to visit the ladies and see what they think of it.. lol

Mine LOVE yogurt - I lace it with flax seeds because they are sometimes too small for them to get to otherwise. They make a HUGE mess of it because they underestimate how close and soft it is so they dip into it almost up to their eyeballs then shake their head all around and it gets on everyone else.

The local farmer's market had them for $5/doz here the last time I went. Consider that jumbo organic "free-range" eggs at Trader Joes is about $4/doz. Those are boring compared to what most of us here get daily.

It is funny how they eat yogurt! I used yogurt to deliver high doses of pepper (capsicums) a couple months ago. It worked well and they ate all the peppers (which they wouldn't without the yogurt).

I saw ads before for $5.50 to $6.00 per doz. Someone even stating that they would pay up to $6.00 but they wanted to see the chickens and their living conditions first.
