Arizona Chickens

NoSkiveez, next time you are going to be in West or North Phx and want to pick up some more roosters let me know. I have at least 8 or 10 that are ready to take a trip.

The lot we are looking at is almost 5 acres, LOTS or free ranging room, but it's a 15 year old mobile home. I've lived in them before, and for the price difference, I don't mind doing it again.

Bob's Henhouse :

We are looking at property about 3 miles down the road, much bigger lot, smaller house, with it's own well, WAY less money. If you think it's appropriate, I'd really appreciate your thoughts/prayers on my behalf. I've never asked before, but I'm beginning to think moving is the only way to retain what sanity I have left, ( and there isn't much of that!)

Hi Bob's Henhouse. That other property sounds great to me. When we bought our house we decided that bigger was not better and we are quite happy. While our house isn't tiny, it's just big enough for the three of us and the utilities are less expensive than a bigger house. Plus, there's less to clean. I like that part. Of course more land is better, more room to plant, raise chickens and park all those awesome man toys you have. Maybe the best part is the well, that would be awesome. You can always build a house later on when things get better too. I hope things turn around for you, it sounds like they are already are.

NoSkiveez, I hope all is well with your husband. Abdominal incisions are painful (as you know).

Nice kitty Cluckin! We recently got a new cat and he thinks the keyboard is the best place to be to get my attention.

nurseronda, great chicken tricks!

nurseshelly, I didn't know tortoises liked grape leaves. I'll have to give some to my neighbor's tortoises this summer.

AZBootsie, nursing sick husbands is more draining than sick kids? I think my wife would agree with you.

Mahonri, I love the head of that Icelandic rooster.

Are you really going? I will be watching my 3 youngest siblings this weekend and told another friend no, but if you're making the trek out here, I will go. Let me know. Still got my #?

We are. 2pm. I am also picking up emu eggs to send to wegotchickens. Wont her hubby be surprised?

I'll call you--me going is actually dependant on a few things--ie I have to finish close by noonoclock.

Noskivies I hope hubby is doing better. Less pain = faster healing. Lacey is doing well. I don't have to put her in the coop anymore, she puts herself in a dusk. Oddly enough she changed the dynamics. DW doesn't seem to be top gun anymore. Shes hanging by herself alot.

Bobshenhouse everything is bound to get better.

Rufus, I will certainly pray for you! Is the new house in a safer part of town?

Bob, I am so sorry to hear things have been going so badly for you lately. It does seem like you have a lot on you right now.

NoSkiveez, you amaze me once again! I am glad the surgery went well Hernia surgery has a pretty long recovery, though. They may have given so many pills for the early recovery and then later when he is just sick of hurting and can't really lay around anymore.

Nurseronda, CUTE pics! Our new chicks just run from us and then freak out when we try to hold them. Our last chicklets were more like yours and they are super sweet now. I hope this isn't a bad sign.

Cluckin', your kitty is soooo cute! When I was pregnant with my first baby, we had a kitty and she loved to lay on my belly. In fact, her purring always got the baby moving, so the baby must have loved it, too.

I haven't noticed a change in egg size. I wish they were larger. Oddly enough, I'm thinking my BA's eggs might be somewhat smaller. What color egg cartons did you choose?

Did I miss a rufus post somewhere?

Bob's Henhouse,
go for it! A very good friend of mine recently bought a mobile home in Morristown and she is VERY happy. Hope it's not too old. Maybe you can do some energy saving homemade upgrades to keep utility cost sdown. But your own well is always a plus! No meddling with cranky well managers...

NoSkiveez, keep us posted on how long he makes it before he changes his mind and goes for the meds. He will then be in amazement

and admire you for the rest of his life because you made it and he did not...

Hey everyone,
I can't believe how fast this thread moves. I read it but I can't keep up enough to post on everything. Please know that I am thinking about whoever needs thinking about and laughing at the funnies.

Warning, some chicken attack details (but not too bad) follow:
I have more details on my sister's chicken attack. She has a small coop with a yard attached. The yard has netting over the top but it isn't secure everywhere. Yes, Gallo, she's in Tucson. In the center of town at about 5th and Rosemont.
The new pullets like to roost in the tree so each night she goes out and puts them in the coop and locks them in.
The night this happened she got home late with a sick kid, she didn't feel well herself and her husband was working. She didn't make it out to lock up the chickens. She has done it before so she thought they'd be OK. She feels terrible about it.
The pullets were probably in the tree but the other chicken taken was in the roosting in the coop with the door open.
There wasn't any blood in the coop or yard (except what was on the RIR's face, she must have been attacked) just feathers.
When she went into the alley she found 3 piles of feathers from the 3 different chickens but no sign of the actual chicken.
Soo... whatever did this got the chickens out of the tree and the coop, carried the chicken out of the yard (over a 5' block wall) and probably ate the whole thing.
Any ideas? I think she's going to set a live trap tonight but it seems to me this might be a larger predator to carry them away with no blood like that.
