My birds do the same thing ^. During the day they all lay down in the dirt under the coop and just drink water and poke around looking for bugs or a wayward kernel of corn. Great coop pics.

Your chicken coop looks like pintrest threw up on it........hahahaha its very beautiful. in a coop sort of way
We do a winter lawn, and yes, you have to keep the chickens off of it until it is well established. Not only will they eat the seed, they will scratch it all over and you'll end up with big spots of no grass. Also, if you don't let the grass become established (2-3 mowings at least) they will pull and scratch it up by the roots. We keep our chickens cooped up during that time.Does anyone overseed their lawns for winter? If so, how do you work that with the chickens? Do they eat all the seeds or are the grass seeds small enough that they miss most of them? I know it's too early in the season to worry about it, but it's something my wife and I were discussing the other day.
That's great! It took a few days for one of my broodies to decide to accept them and get off her nest. I love mama hens and chicks!
Oh how awesome!!!
