Arizona Chickens

countrygirl74 - hopefully the vigil will help people start healing. It's nice to know people are so willing and able to support each other. To bad it takes a tragedy to bring everyone closer. Still sending prayers for all in need.

DH finally got the misters up by the coop today. I was so thrilled to see them working. Although my girls were not so impressed. Hid in the coop the whole time the misters were running. At least I knew the air around the coop was cooler with misters than without. My stock pile is building up and I feel more confident that my girls will survive this heat. Now I just gotta train the kiddos to bring them ice on the days that I sleep (work the night shift at a hospital). Working on a to do list so the kids can start helping more.

Still getting 3 eggs a day on average. Have not had an egg from my EE in a while (since she started molting a week or so ago). But if I was dealing with this heat and molting I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be laying any eggs either. I'm definitely not a sun bunny, more like a snow bunny. If it weren't for my DH and 3 Angels I would not choose to live in Az. You can only take so many clothing items off to get cool but can layer and layer to get warm.

Hope everyone has a great hump day!!

Its been so long since I've been here. How is everyone???

Some of you know that meyer hatchery is doing free shipping on brown egg layers. Id like to order a few for myself but would anyone like to other with me? Shipping chicks is safer with numbers.

Id prefer pullets only. My brooder can fit up to 40 chicks. If you arent able to pick up your chicks right away that's fine. I can hold chicks for 2 weeks.

I am located in South Chandler. Please feel free to send me a pm or contact me via phone: six two three seven55 7047

redrocketrooster: can chicks be shipped in this heat? I've never ordered chicks before, so I don't know. I have a couple more broodies that I'm interested in getting chicks for, since all the eggs I put under them died.

Very probably from your misters then. shoot, thought we had a new kind of egg to lust after!

Lol! Sadly, no, just hard water. I cooked it up for breakfast this morning and when I washed the egg, the speckle pattern came right off. Very nice egg though!!

We have only shipped in April this year.. However we did get our first set of chicks last year from my pet chicken in July .. Around the 10TH.
They all survived..
We need chicks as well for our two broodies, anyone??
If not let talk and place a order?? I do not think the eggs under our broodie will survive.. So we are looking at different options..
Also we still have the first set of her babies to a good home.. They are about 1 1/2 months old.. PM us your # & we can talk..

I would like some dark brown egg layers, olive egg layers, and some more blue laced red Wyandottes. So I'd be interested in Marans, Welsummers, and BLRW, and olive egger chicks. I don't think any of those are in that brown layer assortment, are they?

Boss Hogg is the lady of the hour! 18 weeks and 2 days, what a star!

I have a PR that lays an egg like this every once in awhile. It always has a little bit of white flecking and every once in awhile it looks like this. I collect them from a dry, clean nest box so it's not anything that happens after it's laid (like misters.)
