Arizona Chickens

Nice egg! From what I've read the color is the last thing to go on the egg and its not out of the ordinary to get a speckled egg once in a while especially since she just started laying as well.

I'm no expert, just repeating the info I've read.

Okay my babies have made it through their first full day outside in the Arizona heat! I think they were handling it better than me. My 8 week old BO,BR, and 2EE's seemed to be loving all the extra frozen treats and attention without any signs of distress... At what temperature does it need to get down to where it is no longer necessary to give them ice and everything else heat related? This is my first time ever having chickens.... I think my husband thinks I am insane because I am putting so much time into these silly animals.

I think you guys were right, that the speckles were a new layer thing. Because I had another egg today in the exact same spot and it was a normal brown egg, no speckling, looked nice and clean. I'm so proud of Boss Hogg, she's showing up the other chickens!

My hen that lays the occasional speckled egg is about 2 years old.

redrocketrooster: can chicks be shipped in this heat? I've never ordered chicks before, so I don't know. I have a couple more broodies that I'm interested in getting chicks for, since all the eggs I put under them died.
Too hot to ship. Postal regs require max temps of 85 degrees at both ends.
