LOL - Love that story!!!

My cat carriers were a life saver when we were evacuated due to the Yarnell Fire. I was able to use five of them to load up my chickens two to a box for travel.
That's awesome!! I was wondering what I would do in that case (when I could see the Doce Fire from my street) and haven't figured it out yet - thought about Rubbermaid with air holes. Did you have someplace to take the chickens until you got back home?

wait a minute!!!!!!! you ATE A SILKIE?????????

Gasp!!!!! note to self: do not let LadyKD come over unattended. she wants to eat my silkies. eek! SILKIES ARE FRIENDS, NOT FOOD.
Hahahaha.... I could never cull a silkie either - just re-homed my extra silkie roos and hoped the people would take good care of them. I can do meat birds and most extra roos if I don't allow myself to name them or get attached, but I don't think I'll ever be able to do a silkie or a duck.

. This is my Silke Soup. It is comfort food. I used a number of Asian vegetables, assortment of mushrooms, my favorite Sea Weed, added a touch of Tamarind, and lemmon Zest and juice, but I think it would have been better if I left off the Tamerande. I chopped it up with the bones to add to the flavor. It was wonderfully rich, despite my getting carried a way with to many favors added. It could have been much better if I was a little more simple, cleaner flavors. Lighter on the ginger, less mushrooms, no Tamarind.

I will all Flower and tell her that it will be a Sunday afternoon, tentatively at 5:00 (17:00). The location in fair North West is the only one off reed so at this point. No one in Central Phoenix as off yet. We have a little time to set up a location, I am great full for Demosthine offering. PM me, a divan give you address and phone number of where it will be. I am going to wait hoping for any one in Centeral Phx.

Good morning Folks,

Seems to be water leak season.  They're everywhere!

Flock is doing great - just clucking along.

Hope ya'll have a great Tuesday!

I think I figured out how to quote 2 different people.. Miss mikey D.. Where are the chicken folk from tucson??

Don't know where the other Tucson folks are but I've been dealing with a widespread bumblefoot problem in my flock. Discovered it about a week ago. So I've been mucking out coops and swabbing bird feet in between trying to earn a living. 8 of my 10 cockerels have some stage of bumblefoot, and many of them are far enough along to need surgery on the bumbles. Several of the pullets have it too. It took an hour just to change the bandages on four cockerels yesterday, so treating everybody is not an option. I'm in triage mode - which birds to keep? Which birds to cull? The upside is I'll have fewer birds to feed over the winter. And the grand irony is I used to swear I would cull for stuff like this rather than treat it. That was before something that may well have been my fault affected most of my birds. My best potential breeders have it worst. So I will eat my words and treat some of the birds, hoping that this is a flock management problem and not a line-specific genetic tendency to get bumblefoot.

Oh, yeah, two of my eight pullets are going broody on me too. Which might be a good thing, because if they turn out to be seriously broody I might put the big cockerel in with the pullets for a while and let the broody girls hatch some of his eggs. Then I'd have his big bird genes in the gene pool and I could cull him without having to do the foot surgery on him. I'm liking that idea more and more. But it all hinges on the broody girls actually following through as moms. There is no way I want to be artificially brooding chicks at this time of year...

Hope these show up. I found this egg in the yard. Was hoping someone could identify it? I don't think it's an egg from my new girls but could be. It's awfully small though. What do ya'll think?
