Arizona Chickens

I looked out the window the other day and saw a young orange cat in the yard, with my six cockerels stalking it. The boys stayed in a tight clump and followed that cat under the plant stand, around the garden beds, all the way to the edge of the yard. The cat finally ducked under the fence into the neighbor's yard and the boys were satisfied. Nobody moved faster than a walk during the whole process but it was clear the boys didn't want that cat in the yard and the cat didn't want to be followed by those big birds. Funniest thing I've seen in a while!

I am new to the chickens but after 4 -5 months I am hooked. My grandchildren wanted to buy chickens and keep them out here so here I am raising chickens and ducks and loving every minute of it. I am looking for a 4H in the Surprise / Peoria area. I haven't had much luck finding one. Is there other organizations that the kids can get in to raising and eventually showing chickens. Also would like to get her in to 4H for horses as well. I just need to find something local. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You!

I've been culling cockerels and they've all had extremely healthy livers, except for one. That bird looked and acted healthy, but it had a gray liver with red spots. Weirdest thing I've ever seen. It was not tan or brown. It was a bluish gray color, with burgundy red polka dots. The spots were close to normal liver color. I have seen tan or brown livers before, usually in older birds from other people, but never a gray one. Anyone have any idea what might cause a liver to go gray with red spots?

Did not get a picture - had no camera handy and I was too covered in blood and guts to go get one. Didn't think to put it aside for a later photo. Kicking myself now because it was such a weird looking thing.

Paid $60. There is another exactly like it, same price. Goodwill on Scottsdale rd at Acoma.

Not my patio, I was standing in front of goodwill waiting for my buddy with a truck!!!

SCORE! :ya  very nice...If you don't mind me asking what did they charge you for it? You don't have to answer.

Great find. That goodwill is very close to me but my first batch of girls are big now and not sure/if when we'd get more chicks so not sure we'd be able to put it to good use. Hope someone snags it.

Well they seem to like their new digs. It's hot out here though. They all have their beaks open (panting?) and they are drinking plenty of water. It's about 100 in the shade where they are. I gave them a bowl of frozen blueberries. They are nibbling at them. Anything else I can do to keep them cool?

They all started panting a lot so I brought them back inside. Please let it cool off a tad so I can enjoy them while they still fit in the cage!
