Arizona Chickens

Everything I need for an overnight in near freezing temps. 28# and that includes 3 liters of water and 12oz of whiskey.
I've been trying this pack out as a quick trip, light pack. Space is tight. This will be the second time I've used it and it has more stuff in it this time. Last time I was a little cold without a sleeping bag even though it was the end of May.

Ahhh! Rain check... We all have been under the weather..

I was just talking to a client this week about aravipa. In stafford

this last week.. We were thinking of Wet Beaver Creek 3 1/2 miles

in... I am still on antibiotics

Aravaipa is awesome! I've hiked it in from both ends and I have always camped at Horse Camp Canyon. It's about 5-1/2miles in and absolutely gorgeous. I've found the best time to be there is in September when the water is still warm enough to hang out in. It's BLM land and requires reservations. They only allow X amount of people in there at any given time. I haven't been in years. The last time I went was when my wife and I were engaged. I dragged her in there with some other friends. Great trip back in 1999.

Yeah it is a fabulous hike.. Done it about 3 x... Both ends as well... If my
memory serves me right they only allow 50 in at a time? It could of changed
by now... My boys would love it!!! We only saw 1-2 people a day.. If that..
The havalina came into our camp when the fire was just about out.. Peewhee..
We could smell them before we saw them...
wow, I envy you!!! Enjoy..:yesss:

My pack was is so out dated but will work for our teenagers.. If I did not have
a tent I would sleep in our travel hamic.. No ground for me.. Getting to old..
Our westfalia camper just blew a hose or pump last week.. So if we could get that
fixed I would go camping A.S.A.P.. Now that it is perfect there in Tucson.. I hope to
get into the mechanic soon. Our son is doing the E.V.I.T. Program so if the instructor
wants to give the pancake motor a try, it might take a bit longer.. Hope to know by
the following week..

My real backpacking pack is an old Dana Designs. It's still in awesome shape despite hundreds and hundreds of miles of trips. I've had it since the mid 90's. The problem with that pack, I tend to over pack because it will take it. I used to pack 60+# all the time in that pack.
I am thinking of transfering all my stuff into that pack for tomorrow. It is a comfortable pack to wear, but I want to keep my stuff under 40# these days.

Good Evening All!

Well, as luck turned out we got to Pratts today to check out the newly arrived chicks.Someone had come in earlier in the day and bought every single BO. I actually think it may have been a special order and they messed up by not ordering additional chicks. The 3 week old RIR's were already gone. I researched BO's until I was blue in the face and had decided those were the chicks we were getting, either 4 of them or 2 BO's and 2 dottes. They had about 4 Plymouth Rocks that were a couple weeks old and about 20 silver wyandottes that were 3 days. I was sooooo disappointed. Our son is celebrating his 35th birthday so we are down in the Phoenix area for the weekend and planned to stop by there on Friday, see what they had and buy the chicks on our way home Monday morning. That plan went completely out the window.

Luckily at the El Mirage location (that I didn't think carried live chicks) has RIR's which is what we wanted from the very beginning due to their heat tolerance and that is what I raised as a pre-teen in 4-H. They only get their shipments in about every 3 weeks, and these ones arrived last Friday at 3 days old. I called the store and reserved 4 of the RIR chicks for Monday. They will be almost 2 weeks old when I get them but with the amount of handling I am planning we should be able to tame them to our liking. I really, really wanted teeny, tiny chicks!! I did a buttload of research on the BO's since that's what I thought I would be getting. It's OK though, I will get the breed I wanted from the very beginning!!

I will take pics when I get them and post here!

Since your in town give hatchbawks a call, she usually has BO's.

I haven't had a chance to get out there yet. I want to get some Orpingtons too. Check this kid out. He has some nice Orpingtons. http://www.padillas-peeps.com/theorpingtons.htm It might be a good place to get eggs to hatch. I think that is what I am going to do with a few of them. I can't wait to go see what they have.

I really want one of Cody's Ameraucanas, he's gotten such an amazing blue egg from them. I also want a splash orph from him. His seabrights are adorable but I can't have flighty birds here since we're close to a main road and am not willing to wing clip. I've looked over all their website pics so many times. I emailed with his mother a few times she's very nice and helpful. We decided to hold off on getting chicks at the time though. I hope to get over there some day soon to buy a couple birds. They also have a friend who breeds seramas which I want sooooo bad but decided is probably a bad idea since I don't want to clip wings and all my other girls might sit their fat butts on it and crush it.

Does everyone keep strictly to the 10ft per chicken in the run 4ft per in the coop? Our coop is big enough to have 10-11 chickens but our run only 6-7. Since the girls are primarily free range during the day would keeping 10 with a run that size be horrible to do to them? Our next batch of chicks will only be 3 birds but I know down the line I'll want another small batch. Will I have to convince my bf to let me build on to the run before I go past the 7 bird mark?
