Arizona Chickens

Thought I'd post this deal. CAL Ranch stores have Nutrena feed buy 3 get one free! And they gave me the more expensive bag free since I needed chick and layer feed. There are two new locations. 35th ave. and Southern in Phoenix and one at 1116 E Florence in Casa Grande. Huge place, almost as big as a Walmart, but no live animals just supplies and such. The sale is through Sunday the 13th.

We call ours that too, or Lil' Phil. Here's a few pics to show how she turned out.

This was 1 month ago

And today

She's still small but she looks like an honest to goodness hen now.

So I was getting a salad and a green juice at our local healthy fast-food place and it occurred to me... What are they doing with all that organic pulp and leftover wheat grass? Just throwing it away, ten bags a day, that's what! They kindly gave me some and now the chicks are munching away on yummy carrot/kale/beet/tons of random fruit and veggie bits. Nice treat, right? Could any harm come from it? I've got about ten lbs of it in my fridge.

If you're in Scottsdale, Grabba Green (FLW and 101) is the place.
How SUPER! Come summer heat you can freeze and treat - really great treats!

I have a broody sitting on a bunch of eggs that I saved up and gave her all at once. Good thing I marked them all before I gave them to her because the other girls keep laying in her nest, even though they have other boxes available. One day I caught two other birds in there with her. At the same time. Picture three 4-5 pound birds stuffed into a cat litter box... I still don't know how they did it.

Hi there! I am just a newbie too and got my first chicks, Rhode Island Reds on Monday, 4 of them. They were 2 weeks old. Welcome to the AZ thread! Everyone here is so friendly and helpful! So for everyone else out there, what is fermented feed?

I am very new to this but by taking feed and putting it in a starter culture for around 24 hours depending then fed to chickens. Its supposed to increase the protein by 8 or 9 percent if done right plus allows a good bacteria culture for the chickens.
I started with braggs apple cider vinegar (braggs acv) and water and feed. I put a sock over the top of a glass jar with the mix. Its supposed to take a few days to get going but once it does then 24 hr soak of feed. I read a thread on this site. Ill post it. Some disagree with braggs acv so im just trying that for now and have no clue if working. Alot more details so please read the post I will put and not me

Has anyone raised cornish broilers in december? My dispatch day should be a week or 2 before Christmas. Will I have any issues with cold? I have chicken wire covering my 1000 square ft area in my backyard with 6ft brick walls on all sides. They only have a cabinet style shelf with no cover on the front.they will not have access to the egg laying hen house
