It takes a bit to get me riled up but she did it. Requiring gardens to have fences?

I'll shut up now before I get myself in trouble.

OMG, YES THAT IS WHAT DID IT!!!!!! I was reduced to sputtering. We were all in the car, dropping my kid off at school, and my husband turned to my daughter and said, "Well, we know where mom is going to be on Tuesday. Sigh."

We raised them here in Tucson and like K9Dave said having raised hutches and shade is imperative. Also you can freeze water bottles to put in their cages. We kept ours in a rabbit tree (a building) with a fan and misters as rabbits can get heat stroke fast. Other than that they are very easy to raise.
I would also put a frozen water bottle in their water AND a Big Juice or gallon frozen bottle in their cage! That should work til you get home! :)

I mean, REALLY, DAAARLING, WE WOULDN'T WANT TO HAVE UNSIGHTLY GARDENS IN OUR FRONTS YARDS, WOULD WE? HOW UTTERLY PLEBIAN, DAAAARLING. I MEAN, DAARLING, THE PREDATORS THAT WOULD BE ATTRACTED...WON'T ANYONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN? Fi Fi, YOU DARLING POODLE, STOP PEEING ON MAMA'S FOOT NOW. OH FiFi, SHUSH, NO NEED TO BARK ALL DAY. OH, FiFi, YOU POO'D ON THE SIDEWALK. HO HUM, HOPE NO ONE STEPS IN THAT. NOW, DAARLING, WHAT WAS I SAYING ABOUT CREATING NUISANCES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD? OH YES, UNFENCED GARDENS. AND DISGUSTING, FILTHY CHICKENS.

People have used grape vines, the bottom the girls will eat, but only as high as they can reach, so they have to be protected until they gain some height. There are a number of other vines. I love Cecil Bruener, it is a rose, comes in pink, white and yellow, maybe other colors but I haven't seen them.

Once they get long enough, again, the chickens will eat what they can get. It has tiny thorns, so you need gloves as you train it to go where you want it to. Beautiful and cooling. If you design it right, chicken will find it cool and a very safe place to hide and a safe place for a nap. I had one that grow fast and had abundant flowers.
I have a pink Cecile Brunner and love it dearly; those tiny little rose buds put out a powerful heavenly rose scent. I have never seen it in any color but the pink.I am going to be rooting a lot of cuttings from mine this year to grow over the chicken runs and my new rabbitry when it's built. The thorns are smaller and fewer than a regular rose tho. I also have a white Tombstone rose, AKA Lady Banks, but it has no fragrance. It does have almost no thorns however. My mom has one that is almost 30 years old and it has a trunk like a tree.

Ha ha ha. I agree. I'm going Tuesday. I read the proposed changes and it seemed that the city council wanted to make things EASIER for urban farmers. Did I read this wrong? According to the current laws on the books, I'm way over the chicken limit. And the coop isn't far enough away from my neighbors house. And I think I have too many bunnies ....

That does sound wonderful. Does it keep it's leaves year round? Would it grow down here at lower elevations? I wish I had heard of this a couple weeks ago, we made a "potting shed" from scraps of wrought iron salvaged from my back patio demolition and covered with concrete re-mesh. We planted Tangerine Beauty Crossvines to grow over it. It grows fast and looks good with beautiful flowers, but doesn't have much of an aroma.
