Arizona Chickens

I agree K9Dave why can't ppl be honest? She is on Tucson Clucks and is advertising there do I say something or let others be duped?

You do have to be careful about what you say on public forums. What you might post is something like, "folks, I bought some ducks from someone who claimed they came from her own breeding, but it turned out they were just hatchery stock she was reselling. Don't be duped by dishonest sellers. Private message me for more information".

Sad day here. My neighbor called while I was out to tell me my chickens were in his yard. Very unusual. He went to investigate, and discovered a massacre in progress. Two dogs had broken into the yard and had killed several chickens. They would have killed more but my neighbor threw enough rocks at the dogs to move them out of the yard. Out of 26 chickens six are dead, two are injured, 12 are frightened but seem ok, and the rest are missing. There were dead birds under the back deck, dead birds in the coop, and dead birds under the front deck. The six dead birds included all five of my most-promising birds - offspring of a cock no longer with us, so I can't reproduce them.

I am proud of the six birds that went into the neighbor's yard and got away. We had a time herding them back into my yard. Smart birds.

The up side is my feed bill will go down for a while. Sigh.

I agree something should definitely be said but be careful how you say it so it doesn't come back to haunt you.

I am so sorry. I had this happen a couple weeks ago, on the first day I let my new birds out to free range my neighbors chihuahua got under the fence while I went in to get a drink. Luckily they all ganged up on him and beat the tar out of him. Do you know who the dogs belong to?

OH NO! That is terrible. I am so sorry to read this. Do you know whose dogs they were? The owners should be held accountable. Take photos now to document just in case you need them.

Ok I was up half the night bothered by this so I wanted to ask your opinion.

I went to buy two cayuga ducklings yesterday. I talked to this woman a lot in the last two days asking questions. She seemed very knowledgeable. She was going to keep her only 2 cayuga ducklings for me to pick up yesterday. I explained what all I had to do as my husband had a VA appt and it was last day of school so I couldn't give an exact time to get there but I did text her all day letting her know when I should be there.

When we got there she lives in a county residential area. That does not bother me other than im not sure how she can have room to raise several breeds of ducks and chickens and Turkey s.
She made us stay outside and brought out the ducklings. I was a little curious but I was excited to get my Cayuga's.
I really wanted to get local breed Cayuga not hatchery ones.
Anyway she brings out a bin and it has 3 ducklings. A blk crested, a Cayuga and a golden 500. I asked what happened to the other cayuga that she said she would keep for me. She said she sold him earlier and only had the female now.
I was very upset but I had my husband my son and my sons friend with me and they had already decided they wanted the Cayuga and the golden 500.
I have 4 crested and she was telling me the crested she has is not a real crested as the crested have neurological issues. That from what I was told is only in breeds that are not predisposed to crests.
Then I asked about eggs and this is where I get highly suspicious. I asked about Cayuga eggs color as mine are not laying age and I thought they were brown, dhe had to get her catalog stating she foes not know what color thry lay......um how are you a breeder? How is sheb incubating eggs?
After we have paid for our 2 ducklings she admits that she has bought hatchery chicks and resold them. That would be fine but im concerned she isen't breeding st all but is passing them off as her being the breeder. Ugh I am so frustrated! !!!!

Yeah that is frustrating. . Did she say what hatchery she got them from?

That is very frustrating. She sounds like a dishonest person. Did she actually tell you she was breeding these or did you assume she was? Because if she told you she was breeding and then admitted they were hatchery resells, she lied to you. It is too bad you had the whole crew there begging to buy, because if it was me, I'd have walked away. She didn't have what you wanted, really. And to sell the other one after you had contacted her several times indicates to me she is definitely doing this for the money. From a seller's viewpoint, and I sell a lot of birds, I know it can be extremely frustrating. People call, get your address, say they are coming, and then are no-shows and don't have the decency to call and let you know they aren't coming. But I can usually tell when someone is super serious and I give them the benefit of doubt. If I told someone I would hold the bird, I wouldn't sell it out from under them. If I don't want to hold it, I will tell them, first person who shows up, gets it. But to tell someone you'll hold it, and then not? Unethical.
ok so she did tell me she bred them. but when asked about egg color she could not answer and went to get her catalog.
The hatchery was Meyer hatchery.
she never admitted THESE ducklings came from a hatchery but said that her feed store has ordered birds for her and that when she ordered her Rouen they sent 20 and she only needed 4 so she sold the rest. I do not know if she disclosed to those people or not. but she told my husband and I that she has done it with chicks too.
But the thing that very much upset me is this convo between us and another interested person on Tucson Clucks.

so sorry to hear about your loss. I hope you find your missing birds soon. I feel so bad for the scared ones. Hopefully you can name the dogs and get some recourse.
