Arizona Chickens

Me too, and I use olive oil, that's the mayo I use for my deviled eggs :)

I've only made it with Olive Oil. Do others use other oils or something?

Also, just wondering if anyone has paid attention to what crops are planted around town? I'm getting more and more interested in gardening and crops but being a newbie I still don't know the names of most of them. I should e got a pic but this field down the road has some sort of crop that has what look to be little purple/lavender flowers on them. Is it a cover crop or ??? Thanks ahead of time.

Around where I live, the main crops are cotton and sorghum, with a smaller percentage of hay and veggies.

The last batch of mayo I made, I used sunflower oil, but didn't like the taste. Next batch is olive oil again, despite the slight greenish tint. (I don't use turmeric for color). Gonna try adding a pinch of minced garlic, too.

There's some cotton over here but tons of corn. Also there is another plant that I wanted to know what it was. I'm gonna have to go get a pic. Not that I want to grow it, I just need some newbie knowledge. Must be what it feels like to be birding for the first time, they all just look like birds until you want to know what it is.

So I put my week and a half old girls outside in the grow up coop that I remodeled and added a 2 inch layer of fresh arizona sand on the floor. After introducing them to there big girl waterer, they go dust bath crazy thete was a cloaud of dust a foot high it was insane and hilarious to watch. Even the five Gunea Fowl was dust bathing lol, I also put my little girl that was sickly when I got her out there with the others she had a ball also. She is only about half there size though she isnt really growing, she is also grabing the other girls toes but I think that is because she has been seperated from them for ahwile. I had to bring the girls inside around 2am because of the rain, we got flooded again. Same thing hapened when I put my first girls outside.

Darn rain. Don't want it, then we want it.. Ugh, hope it all works out..

Dave - it the plant is close to the ground it could be alfalfa - often before one or two of the cuttings the farmer lets the alfalfa bloom so it can re-seed (at least so I am told) but the smell is usually lovely. I always want to get a double hand-full of the fresh cut alfalfa for the girls - they really love it!

I bought 4 or 5 different types of sorghum seeds. I'm so interested to see what happens. I got an interesting tip on making my own hand press out of one of those old wringer style washers. We'll see. Lol!

That makes sense. I've just never seen an alfalfa bloom I guess. I'm gonna take a pic and maybe a handful. Shhh

Thank you for this. Have you found it hard to shop for all organic and non-GMO? Expensive? Sucks that you and everyone else has to deal with this stuff.

It sucks getting old.

I'm a Cajun so cayenne is a big part of my diet normally. Only real other chili I eat is jalapeños.

It is not that hard IF you avoid processed foods. You need to read all labels. Almost everything has soy or corn in it, or something derived from soy or corn. Those are two of the biggest GMO crops, so if it doesn't say organic, you can count on it containing GMOs. Yes it is more expensive to buy, but in the long run? How much is your health worth to you?

I dream of having, using our own farm fresh yummiest home grown food.. But then, I don't use it, or it too pretty to eat, or it dd not come to seed.. Ugh, however, I do like CSA..that way we will either get something we can't grow or did not grow..
