Arizona Chickens

1)A chicken is a Roo when it has.......

* bigger comb and Wattles
* Spurs on each of their feet
* bigger then a hen of that breed
* pointy Neck or collar feathers
* attitude
* crows (when mature)?

Is there anything else I need to know in determining if I have a pullet or Roo ?

2)When Is A Roo Mature enough to breed?

3)How old Are they when they Crow? (What age range?)
2.) there are others with far more experience but I find it depends on the breeds. the smaller breeds seem to me to mature faster. If they can crow they can breed (usually) but they can start crowing very young at 3 months and I have adult roosters (my NN) that never crow. I plan on using my roosters for breeding at 6-8 months depending on breeds. I have a lot of AM which are slow to mature and they hardly ever mature before 6-8 months old. My Aloha's started mounting the hens at 3 months but they are not crowing. I know its all confusing but maybe I helped a bit.

I know you all are waiting to see the chickens I spent 12hours getting.

Agh, how beautiful.. :love

..... lol, my white Leghorn is very much into everything! I FEEL for you. .. :gig

My leghorn is bold but she's scared to death of me.

OMG is that the kitchen counter?

Uh yeh the kitchen counter. I think she was looking for a place to nest. Her and her sister have started to "Squat" when I reach for them. Scared the crap out of me when I came in to wash my hands she chirped. The lights were off. Lol

ok Just let me know Dave. Its no biggie just want them gone by breeding age so a month or so...lol. do you want the NN/Marans, the EE and Aloha rooster? I also have a Golden cuckoo Marans rooster too. let me know which ones you are interested in. I also may have some pure bred blk AM cockerels for sale as well. ugh rooster over load.

Most anything I get is just to rid people of Roos and fill my belly so if you can sell them you should. Otherwise I'll be glad to take tem in a couple weeks Max.

My NN are my favorite breed for their personality. I am so excited to get a EE NN. I will be working on adding beards and muffs. I also plan on mixing them with my SiAM so I will have a version of a show girl but without the blk skin and feathered feet and they will lay green eggs, maybe blue someday. :)

Is that a Delaware? Mine is so curious too.
yep Delaware. Do yours peck at clothes and freckles? This breed is very curious and friendly. I love em.

Finally captured a pic with most of my girls in it. Pay no attention to the dog mess, I've neglected the yard lately.

:welcome  to everyone that I have missed over the last few weeks.

I am super excited that my AM NN is laying green eggs. so I have a NN EE. I plan on putting another AM roo over them to improve beards and muffs. I LOVE it!!

Hey Dave I might be in Phx this weekend if you are still interested in the roo's. ???

Pop on over for tea & crumpet's..

If I were you, I would check out the forum for that particular breed you are asking about.. We have a silkie rooster & he has no comb like a Black copper Marans.. Hope this helps..
