Great idea. I'm about ready to build my garden. I'm doing a raised again this year but gonna use Mesquite and Chopped Firewood for the borders. The chickens ripped up my Chard last year, they loved it.

So what are you doing today? I'm working on refinishing my dining room chairs. I've discovered Annie Sloan's chalk paint and have also tried making my own. For small projects, mixing regular eggshell (heh heh) paint with powdered calcium carbonate works very well. The Annie Sloan paint goes a lot farther and has better coverage, even though it's more expensive. It was also worth it to buy her paint brush. Really good quality real bristles that hold a lot of paint, don't fall off in the paint, and don't leave tracks. I'm doing three layers of paint:

1. bright red, which didn't cover very well
2. cream
3. graphite

I'm doing two chairs first because I ran out of red paint: At first I was just going to put the cream on spots I wanted it to show through, but the wood was so thirsty I feel that it need and entire coat to add the texture and patina I wanted. I'm painting the one on the right completely with cream. It still needs another coat. Then I will put the graphite (black) on. I might use the dark wax in between layers ... I'm not sure. It's a very organic process. I'm looking for a side table to do for my brother for Xmas. I want to modge podge some lotteria cards on to the top of it, or maybe just transfer some images onto it. Does anyone have any old furniture s/he wants to get rid of.

Sounds so fun!! I only THINK of doing stuff like that.. Photos as you progress ??

Whoa! Checked that one out, looks like they need an English speaking proofreader! Especially since it has a 9 egg capacity, that they describe as "hordes"! LOL.

Yeah, when I first got out of the Nav, I took a job as a proofreader at Phoenix Auto Trader, about 1978 or so. (They badly needed one!) It was pretty cool being a single guy in an office full of single women. I ended up marrying one of the typesetters.

P.S. what am I doing today? Still moving into the new house. I can't believe how much junk I've accumulated!

If they are broody they usually will be protective of the stash, puff up and scream at you when you try to get near the eggs. Oh and consistently on the nest.

I would pull those wooden eggs out from under the broody.

CCL will be in my next incubator full of eggs. I already ordered from the lady in Goodyear.

Pam at Padilla's Peeps ( the breeder in Goodyear) seams like a real nice lady. She was very flexible about pickup time for the eggs and was really good about answering my question. A real Pro.

Did you get a chance to look at all of their birds?

I ordered a packet of organic swiss chard seeds and they sent me 8 packets!  Wasn't looking to plant that much swiss chard.  I'm in NE Mesa if anyone is interested in free seed packets of Fordhook Giant Swiss Chard let me know.

Thank you. You'll love the Golden Marans, they're the most mellow breed I have. My roo weighed 11.5 lbs when he was 10 mos old, that was 6 months ago & he's filled out a bit more.

We have some small hens, so that would be a large roo.. Your roo is gorgeous..

Huh, what age do they see symptoms.. I guess it would not hurt if is transmitted threw the egg..
What do you think @desertmarcy can a egg be that porous that would happen.. That is really sad to hear.. Just a newbie

My main concern is breeders can be NPIP but that certification doesn't cover Mg/Ms so if their breeding birds were carriers then the hatching eggs would result in chicks that would be carriers & put your entire flock & grounds at risk. My understanding is to prevent this one should do the dipping of the eggs immediately before placing into the incubator. Tylan or Denagard is added to ice cold water which the eggs are dipped into, the cold will allow for the Tylan to be taken into the pores & get to the embryo. I'm sure I'm missing some crucial steps but would like to know as I've pre-ordered some lavender cuckoo orp eggs & don't want to expose my flock to anything that may cost them their lives.

Interesting.. I guess even chick's that are shipped could have the disease , right?
