Arizona Chickens

So what you're saying is you all have the same lawyer.. As soon as he pulls you over you flip him the card??

A little off the topic of chickens, but nothing says there can't be open conversation here.

If he isn't on the ride with us he is only a phone call away. He even has bandannas printed up with his contact info and the most common laws that affect motorcycle enthusiasts here locally. Feels good to have someone to go to when we are treated wrong for just being a bunch of Veteran Marines who like to ride. This is an example of how we are treated sometimes here and how they are being changed: http://klas.videodownload.worldnow.com/klas_20140906002643620AA.mp4

I am glad they stated that they are thankful for everyone's service. It does suck that one or two groups ruin something like this for a service member.. The world is only going to get worse.. Thank you for the link..

I did the move from Phoenix to SE coastal GA.

I miss the AZ Chickens people and information sharing so still lurk here - this is a thread like no other!

Where we live is definitely a slower pace than Phoenix, but it's beautiful, everything grows (whether you want it to or not) and although it does get humid, the heat of the valley in summer was way worse to me. We've worked in the yard all summer. The chickens love the environment too...we moved them out here with us (Yeah...we're THOSE kinda people - aka crazy). Savannah is gorgeous, although I'm S of there by about 45 minutes. We do live on the intercoastal, so probably have a more temperate climate than other parts of GA.

Close to amazing fishing on lakes, rivers, the ocean, watersports of all kinds, scuba, close to the Caribbean for last minute cruise deals, etc..

Wow! Great info from someone actually living in one of our areas of interest! Thanks. You make it sound even more ideal than we realized - we love the water, boats, DH used to dive and I know would love to dive again, fishing, cruises - yes, that's our idea of retirement. The humidity doesn't bother me (I grew up in MA - 90% humidity for two months every summer) as long as it's not 110 deg and humid, too!! Georgia just jumped to the head of the list!

So I was finally able to re-home the breeds I am not going to focus on and move all my Ameraucana's and split them into their own coops per variety (BBS, Wheaten, Buff). Then I have my NN and my Polish crested separated into their own coops. all the random breeds are free ranging with the ducks and geese. So far this is working. NOW if the girls will resume laying so I can start hatching eggs I will be excited,

I am supposed to go get eggs this weekend and try out my new incubator but my fuel pump went out in my van. Hopefully we can get it fixed tomorrow.

My kids are also starting 4-H. We had the first community club meeting last Monday. My youngest is doing Robotics, Rocketry, Poultry, cooking and shouting sports and my oldest is doing Arts (drawing), shooting sports, dogs and hopefully poultry. I used to be in 4-H as a kid and I am excited to get the boys into it. I think I will be running in circles!!!!

This combined with being the president of the booster club for their school and my diaper cake/ wedding cake business that I am trying to get off the ground and my poultry that I am seriously thinking of showing......

I think I will be busy!!

I grew up in Old Lyme, CT! And I spent some summer vacations in Beverly Farms, MA.

Anyone know the best time to over seed the grass with rye? I always seem to get it in too late so it's germination in cold weather and takes too long, or too early and it just fries.

We haven't made a ton of social headway here either but we seem to spend most of our time working around the house or yard anyway. Because of the way yards are around here (big open lawns all around, no fences) we had to build a really solid run - about 20' X 40', 8' chain link (sides & roof) all covered with wire and buried into concrete. There are so many predators around here...fox, raccoon, opossum, martins, eagles, hawks, alligators, dogs..and people of course. I miss having the ladies free range around the yard, and the expectant faces looking in the windows but I don't miss the poop all over everything...at least not outside their run

Is anyone interested in going in on a chick order with me  to Ideal poultry?  I have ordered from them a few times before and have been happy with them.  (Yes, I should buy local and I would, except that the whole rooster thing is too hard.  I want sexed pullets.)

We could just pay for our own chicks and then split the shipping costs by number of chicks ordered.

I need them to be shipped on September 24th so I can stick them in with the chicks that will hopefully be hatching that day.

I'll pick them up at the post office and keep them here(Gilbert) that day until you are available to pick them up.

I'm only ordering 4, probably a BR, a BA and an EE and something else but you can order whatever they have available for Sept. 24th.

Message me if you are interested.

Possibly, I looked

I think I've decided not to place an order.  I found a feed store that will be getting chicks from Ideal on the 25th.  I only want 3 or 4 so I'll probably just get them there and just get whatever they have.  I hope they get BAs, they are my favorite.

Yeah, that is all I wanted too. So our silkie Cheryl eggs are looking good.. So we might be okay.. I might try to check under our jungle fowl to see how the eggs are progressing.. Plus mst of their breeds were not available.. Thanks..:frow
