Arizona Chickens

Never heard of "rooster collars"! If I can get one, that will solve half of the issue. Cleaning after him is the other half. Thank you for the suggestion I will get to google to try to find this collar. We have a lg dog wire crate for him and added wooden poles for him to roost on. We let him out and about but almost always he chooses to perch on top of a couch next to whomever is sitting there. He is awesome and very calm even with our female gsd which is infatuated with him and tries to lick him all the time lol. Thank you again!
Sorry I don't know how to quote and/or reply/tag here yet but I appreciate all the good input and suggestions I am getting here. HE IS VERY LOUD AND CROWS ALL DAY sometimes at night too so the collar will be very very helpful

Rooster collars work great! You can't hear my big Black Orpington roo at all. Plus he sleeps in a small crate at night. I leave the door open and he walks in there all by himself and I close it at night. I let him out around 9 am and he almost never crows. Even when he does you can't really hear it and it sounds pathetic. Lol. It saves me from having to give him to god knows who and he takes care of my hens.

The coyote didn't even take any. It killed them and buried them around the yard. I found them at 6am and the coyote came back looking for them at 6:30. All 8 were accounted for when my bf collected the bodies.

Sorry about this.

Hello everyone ^_^ I've been gone for so long! How is everyone? I'm finally moved into my new place that comes complete with about a hundred and eighty pigeons that I can play with and take to shows! And thanks to @cyborg my chickens have been nice and safe! I've got a nice big set up that holds the chickens and my new goats

Diablo!
And Ducky! (Whom I will get a picture up of later because BYC won't let me add of another picture)

Nice goat

Ouch. I am so sorry!  :hugs

I use whatever leftover paint is hanging around the shed.  If I have a choice I prefer exterior paint or a glossy interior paint, because it can be hosed down easier.  You can also check out the "oops" paint at Home Depot.  Sometimes you can find good deals there.

I was worried because the rabbits like to chew on everything and they will have access to this. I don't see a prob with the chickens really but the rabbits want to chew on everything. I have wood in their run for them all over.

At the Hazardous Materials drop off, near west side frontage rd north of Ruthrauff, you can get free paint. They take paint dropped off and pool it in 5-gal buckets. I don't know if they mix interior with exterior. I have never picked up paint from them, just passing on the info that they have it available. There is a limit how much you can get at one time. Might be a similar program up in Phoenix.

Thank you

Hello, I rescued this beautiful rooster to keep him from going to a shelter but I cannot keep him due to HOA/noise. He has been in my kitchen since I got him and doing wonderful. I need a loving family that would like to adopt him. I AM IN APACHE JUCTION, AZ. Please contact me if interested!

I was gonna suggest a collar too so that you get to keep it as a pet. So small I bet it's full crow isn't loud anyways. With a collar it should be hardly anything. Good luck

so chicken math is firmly in effect over here, I got two more chickens.... which takes us up to 5 hens, one roo and a drake and hen Muscovy. The lady had no clue what the breeds were and I chose them by oooooo pretty! I want that one! anyone have any ideas? or just barnyard mix?

the pix aren't the best as they are still in lockdown and I took these with the cell phone...

Quote: If you are concerned about paint toxicity, don't use paint made before 1978. That was the cutoff year for lead in the paint. Also, if the coop is large and well ventilated there should be no problem with exterior paint inside the coop. If the coop is small I would avoid using exterior paint in there, because exterior paint may give off more fumes. My coops are mostly open air coops so I wasn't concerned about toxicity from fumes.

Speckled Sussex and Crested Cream Legbar? Lucky you if she is a Legbar! They are expensive eggs/chicks/adults, and they lay pretty blue eggs.

Possible? one of them laid me a pretty blue egg the next day after she came home! I just love the spotted/speckled one! The boy who was in charge of these chickens told me one would lay a dark egg... but not sure if that will be accurate. Everyone took the day off today as far as laying goes.
