Arizona Chickens

oooh you'll really be hooked now! Have you read over Sally Sunshine's stuff, Hatching 101? Important to not let your humidity be too high the first 18 days tho, made that mistake once.

So, what did you put in to hatch?

I haven't checked that thread...but I'll be doing so very shortyly.

I got Naked Neck Turken eggs from two separate breeders. Amazingly they both arrived the same day even though they were shipped from different parts of the country. I'm hoping that's a good sign that this was meant to be.

I hope everyone had an excellent Christmas! I went out to collect eggs from the ladies, and picked up this JumboX2 egg from one of my golden sex links. It weighed in excess of 76 grams, and did have a double yolk.

I ate this egg this morning in a Spanish tortilla. Not to be confused with a Mexican tortilla, the Spanish version is more of a cross between a quiche and an omelette, and uses 8 to 12 eggs, bacon or sausage, along with varying amounts of cheese and veggies.(No flour or cornmeal included!)
My GF was raised in Spain, and is bewildered how the Mexicans attached the tortilla name to those thin flour frisbees!

Your Spanish tortilla ingredients ? Sounds interesting.

Funny, I thought that cross between a quiche and an omelette was called a frittata.  It is a staple in this household, whatever you call it.  Yum!

OK, here is a pic of a Spanish tortilla. I used a dozen eggs, an onion, about 3/4 pound of my home made hot Italian sausage, and about a half pound of cheese (sharp cheddar and mozzarella).

And here is the "Conquistador Breakfast" served daily at 6:00 AM!

Love it.. The name that is.. I don't see a pastry of sorts? "Spanish tortilla"?? However my eye's could be deceiving me..

the kids and I are doing a fire out back, a neighbor gave us some juniper. It's not the alligator bark juniper, I'm so bummed it has no smell. If anybody ever gets a hold of alligator park juniper please let me know

I have a great source for alligator juniper. I'm not home right now but I'll send his info when I get back. He's awesome and delivers from Payson. There is nothing like alligator juniper for a fire!

Thanks..

I just set my very first EVER batch of eggs in the incubator! So excited! So nervous! So....impatient. :D

X2!! Those precious babies will be here before you know it! Let us know how any progress when you candle..:goodpost:

We really wanted to do a fire out back last night, No Way.. to cold to do a fire.. Sounds funny to say
In Arizona.. Love the desert..
It was so cold! The duck must have abandoned her eggs, they were ice cold this morning when I checked them. From now on I will just be taking her eggs away from her. 16 babies were moving two days ago, now, probably dead. It is 45 degrees out right now and she is laying outside the nest, eggs uncovered, no interest. so so sad. I wish I had listened to my instincts and gone to get the loaner bator Sil offered. At least now I will have my own, as of Wednesday.

honestly I have no idea if she was on them last night and I haven't seen her on them at all today. we went out there at like 2pm today. I think they are a loss. I could get the bator and put the eggs in, but I just am afraid they froze last night. I thought I saw movement in one today at three when I candled but it was cold cold and I think it was just wishful thinking. I don't know. You think I should put them in the bator?

It's so funny to have new people pop on over for a drink or Bon fire.. Us city folk with duck's , chickens.. We were up with neighbors and friend's durring the holiday season, "the couple" Rick & Lauren stayed up wanting to visit with us when we were roasting marshmallow's..
