Arizona Chickens

My Barred Rock cockerel has apparently decided he is now too old and "manly" to sit on my lap to snuggle. Instead, he lays at my feet while his girls occupy my lap.

He did eventually move to the sunshine to sunbathe.

I know he's nowhere near the quality of breeder stock, but he's still my favorite in my hatchery flock. He's polite, friendly, and sweet while still watching over the rest of the flock. He's made me appreciate Barred Rocks enough to seriously consider sticking with the breed and maybe acquire some breeder stock in the future from a certain outstanding breeder on this thread.

WHAT DID YOU DO THIS WEEKEND?

I was supposed to go see @Gallo del Cielo, but that got put on the "to-do" list, and I tried to make some improvements to my temporary tarp pen roof for the coming rain, with some slightly less than satisfactory results. Ended up doing some major earth moving (burying a new septic system chamber leach field). That pretty much burned up Saturday, and I only got about one fourth of it done. Sunday, I chainsawed down a Palo Verde and mesquite tree that were right on the edge of where the next pen will go. Now I need to do some more digging to level the ground for the next pen. Glad the "work week" has arrived so I can get a little rest!

Anyone know where I can get ahold of about 125' of wire mesh to build a run? I am looking for 1/2" x 1/2" mesh and 48" width. I will need about 125 feet. I live in Queen Creek and need a place for my new birds to be safe from coyotes. Any place in the Phoenix or east valley that may sell it in bulk? Thanks for any help.

Western Ranchman has bulk rolls of 1/2x1/2. We've gotten lots of wire from them, and they have the rings to join the wire too.

This guy has gone missing. we let him live in the front yard, we did not want him to fight with our other rooster. he could mess up his comb. So now we have another rooster, a bielefelder. He is such a sweet dude. P.M. us if interested..

Maybe he just went looking for greener pastures? I hope he turns up.

Here's my first successful try at growing fodder. I recycled some food packaging, it works fine for now.

I used BOSS and red winter wheat from the Big Sky co-op in the first and just getting started the second container is just the wheat.

Nice "mini-lawn"! They're going to LOVE it. My look like their slurping spaghetti when they eat it.

Another idea is Bob’s Red Mill buckwheat groats. I get them off Amazon, but you may find them at a local grocery that carries BRM grain products. They grow fast and the chickens love them. I'm also planning on a lot of amaranth this year.

:/ one of my button quail died about a week ago. Went to the AAS birdmart today, but had no luck finding any quail there. Bought a nice pair of diamond doves though.

If anyone has any button quail for sale around mesa, let me know! I dont mind driving either!

Oh can you post photo? Here is a photo of some dove egg's from a friend and the quail egg's from @Sill
The dove egg's are mixed in with her quail egg's. The last egg at the bottom is a duck egg.. The top bunch is from our flock..
