Arizona Chickens

hey everyone! I finally got the new girls to come out of the run today. I've been leaving the door open, for extended periods when I'm home, for weeks now. Today they finally ventured out. They are much more chicken than our last flock. I wonder if it's because we didn't raise them from chick. They were already about 3 months when we got them.

Now I just hope I can round them back up.

Making a tasty hefeweizen today also. Lots of wheat for the girls when I'm done using it.

A little hawk showed up and perched on the swing set. I guess it was deciding wether or not it could take a chicken. I chased it off then rounded up the girls.

Cute hawk though.

Wow they look beautiful. The hawk looks pretty cool too. Although, I've been known to stand out in the yard with a big rake in my hand when I see the hawks circling nearby. (crazy chicken mom) I've not had one actually in the yard. They've landed on the block fence which was way too close for comfort for me.

Thanks! They are pretty huh!
This one does low fly by's all the time. Thats the first I've seen it roost in the yard. Most of the time, I see it chasing doves around. It's half the size of my hens.
Still, it was their first day out. Didn't want any drama so they got rounded up.

My cat is sick today. I have no idea why. He's throwing up occasionally and doesn't feel good. He's currently hiding in his favorite sleeping spot. (He's an indoor cat) I hope he didn't eat something bad for him. The only thing I have in the house are roach traps. Perhaps he caught a poisoned roach and ate it? He sure does love to eat bugs. I checked my kids chocolate and none of that looks tampered with. Ugh, I hope he's okay.

The bike is in serious need of a new rear tire which is not in the current budget, so it's in suspended animation out in the shed. The budget right now is supposed to be going for chicken housing, but I seem to get fiscally sidetracked pretty easily. Planned on going to the Tucson Gem Show this weekend, but the paycheck is already history, so its home projects tomorrow, and planting some trees.
So, how you been doing?

Well it's nice weather for it now so get moving. Lol. I've just been doing the same old thing. It's not working out for us here so we're moving on to the next adventure. Took all my chickens to the neighbors last night so I'm a little bummed today.

:hugs. :frow

Hi,
I am going to just build a new bigger coop instead of expanding the old one. But right now we have a net over the top of the old one, but it isn't big enough for the new one. So I need to make the fence taller. And I dont want to clip their wings, so How tall should I make the fence so that my hens and roos don't fly out?
