Arizona Chickens

I will have German Bielefelders hatching tomorrow, most are spoken for already but I should have a few available. I also raise bantam silkies, serama and purebred Ameraucana. I'm north of Prescott.

I hope your hatch goes well! And you'll post photos, right?
I do my final candling on my Biel eggs and put them in lockdown tonight. Right now I still have eleven viable eggs, but tonight that number could diminish. So excited!

keep us posted on your hatch. I can't wait to see how many you get.

you know what, you're right I should have said that. We've had a few sick chicks from the feed store. I had one that had the abdomen outside if its belly. Sadly it did not make it. The last batch from a feed store, same thing. one of the chicks had pasty but, after I was done rinsing it I saw a red, blood like clot. Sadly that one did not make it either.I really need to inspect the chicks better! I don't know what I was thinking. Chicken MATH set in, I didn't even know it was happening until I left. I was exhausted. I would take the chicks in during the day and keep an eye on them, but in the evening I would let them go out and frolic with the rest of their siblings.

It is sad when chicks die. :hugs

Fortunately this chick seems healthy and happy. It is a little smaller than its sibling but not by much. It was eating well when I got home. Tapioca saw me and took the other two chicks to the far end of the coop but the little blind chick kept eating. We have three food dishes, a chick feeder, and two chick waterers in the coop so it is easy for the chicks and pullets to eat and drink without interference, especially as Marshmallow can get grumpy with the older chicks at times.

Tapioca is a good broody as the chick was over a week old before we figured out that it was blind.

Yes, just move it at dusk or just after. We have about a half dozen huge chunks of aspen that we keep around for them. I think they're pretty cool bees.

Yeah I'm not sure just how to do that. They are active all day, and the stump will need to be cut out with a chain saw so I guess it will be evening when I try to remove it. I just hope the bees don't decide to vacate the premises while the work is going on. Maybe if I plug the holes first? Yep, they're some cool bees.

Does anyone know what plant this could be? It was a volunteer

The plant is tree tobacco (Nicotiniana glauca), it's a member of Solanaceae. A friend of mine who is native American told me they smoke it to cure addictions and she made it sound like it's a pretty horrible experience. I've not tried it.

It's quite an invasive plant, fast growing and produces millions of tiny seeds. I pluck them as soon as they appear.

Burt's a handsome boy!

those black copper marans are so pretty! I am raising up chicks to do blue laced red wyandottes, but I wont have those anytime soon, my stock is still in the eggs "cooking". HAHAHAHAH.

Hey, I have 7 straight run BLRW babies, I only want hens, you are welcome to have any roos if you want. Still no idea who is what, but I can let you know as soon as one of them crows
