Arizona Chickens

I'm right there with you. I was supposed to start with four chicks last November. Right now I have 33 chicks/chickens of various ages and more hatching eggs on the way...and we're going to Tractor Supply tomorrow where they might have Buff Orpingtons that I just may have to buy to keep my single hatchling company since the White Rocks I picked up today are so much bigger than he is..... I may need an additional ten steps in that plan.

I can certainly feel for you. I started out with 3 barred rocks, 3 sex links. I then went back to get to get 3 more barred rocks and a RI roo to breed for more sex links. You would think I would stop there. umm no 'sigh' I bought an incubator and hatched white marans cornish black copper marans and since being on here and seeing photos and stories of other chickens I have become an addict. Bought black copper eggs, blue copper eggs. Then thought well I can breed for meat birds and bought a breeding pair of Cornish. Wow is she a prolific layer. That pair I am selling soon. By then I was thinking I needed an intervention group LOL added a second incubator and got Isbar eggs, Cemani eggs and ordered 16 blue copper chicks and 18 eggs. Have 10 Isbars coming and 10 lavender maran chicks coming. Too much fun we now have 29 chicks we hatched in the bath tub while we build a brooder will be done in two days. Also have 13 in a box. 'stops to take a breath, just got in the mail 22 eleven each silver lace and gold lace Cochins. Coming soon fly tie bantams. Lost count on if I missed listing anyone. So for sure can sympathize with you and in a strange way I am not sorry a bit that I have them they are all so pretty, fun and part of our growing family. My husband is supporting my addiction and working hard to build the paddocks to house them.
My husband said step one is admitting you have a problem or addiction. I don't see making it to step two

Desertchic, at TSC they have Cornish meaties, RIR's, Golden sex links, and some kind of Bantams. At Post in Marana, they have Silver laced Wyandottes, Barred Rocks, Ameraucanas (easter eggers), and RIR's.

I only have Jersey Giants, BBS Ameraucanas, Easter Egger/ameraucana, Barred Rocks, Golden sex links, and Black copper Marans (and one vicious Buff Orp rooster that is going in the oven this week). Don't quote me, I will have to take a head count again, but I think I have 70+ chickens right now.

STEP 1; OK, some people might think I have a problem.

STEP 2: OK, the feed is getting expensive.

STEP 3: But I like my chickens, and all their eggs.

STEP 4: Problem solved.

Emergency: A friend of mine has 10 six week old Cornish rock meat birds that he has to rehome within the next day or two. (Today is Saturday April 4.) He is having serious health problems and can't take care of them or process them at this time. The birds weigh about 5 pounds each and could be processed any time. The birds are in Tucson.

If anyone is able to take these birds please PM me and I will send you his phone number.

Thanks!

We are right there with ya. We had several egg layers in Mi years ago. Buff O., Rocks & Rhode I Reds. Yesterday we picked up Reds and Buffs We have been told by many that they some of the most popular egg laying breeds. I understand the best for this atmosphere is Black Austrolopes but they aren't as prolific egg layers. I'll be keeping up on your replies so I can also learn.

If anyone knows someone with a brinsea advanced locally I am in the market for one. I have a couple but need another one. I tried finding an incubator that had good temp and humidity control but came up short. What types are anyone here using and what are your thoughts on them as far as temp control and humidity control. Brinsea are expensive so hoping for a used one Or something that works consistantly. So any thoughts or leads though them my way

I'm using an R-Com (incubator for dummies

) and have been very pleased with it overall. The humidity and temp gauge I put inside it said it was spot on accurate.
