Arizona Chickens

This is still one of our favorite signs. . Can't remember who posted.
I love this!!!! Okay...here's my funny story....When my son was only about 3 years old he was standing on our couch, looking outside our living room window to watch some of the free-range cattle that had wandered over. All of a sudden, literally right in front of him not even 3 feet away, the bull mounted one of the cows and went to town on her. I walked into the room to see my son's horrified expression. In a very alarmed voice he yelled, "Mommy! What are they doing? What's he doing to her?" I answered, "They're making a baby cow, honey." He remained very quiet and watched them for a few more moments before turning to me and grumbling, "I don't think she's enjoying it very much." I laughed until I cried. :D
I can just imagine my son now whose 7, whose had similar sentiments for our hens and I'm laughing with your wonderful memory of your son and his tender thoughts for the mommy cow as it would be called in my family! :lau How precious our kids can be in child, chicken, dog and any other animal form!! Those memories are good to have!! :goodpost:

Sure I could - just not my preferable!!! LOL I'm only about 3 miles from there.......BUT we had to put our 14 year old pug girl down this morning - she said it was time - and we are both blubbering messes. DANG you just don't know how attached you are after 14 years. She was a daddy's girl so my DH is really hurting.
So sorry for your loss. No mater how long we have with them it's never enough.

SPICY HOMEMADE MAYONNAISE
OMG GOOD!

2 Whole eggs (large)
2 tbs lemon juice
2-3 tbs coarse ground brown mustard
2-3 tbs crushed red chili flakes (I use Tampico)
2 cups vegetable oil
1/2 tsp salt
Put all ingredients in a wide mouth 1 quart canning jar. Using an immersion blender, blend for 30-60 seconds, pumping the blender up and down. This gives you a thick creamy mayonnaise that makes the store bought stuff look like cheap margarine.
The taste is mild when first made, but it develops a little kick after storing in the fridge for a few days.

OK so I made this tonight along with my regular mayonnaise recipe. It tastes great so far, just a little spicy. We'll see how it is after it chills for a day or two!

I've hatched hundreds of tiny quail chicks but tonight I have my first chickens pipping their eggs. I can hear some of them chirping already. There are 21 from my hens, 8 from my sister's flock and 7 from Trader Joe's grocery store fertile eggs. I'm excited to have my first "giant" chicks hatching soon. Most of them will go to live with my sister's flock, but some will be replacements for my aging hens.

We live in Tucson and have had our "Girls" for just over 2 years. We noticed that they are a bit more uncomfortable during the real heat but they have shade and love to go under their house to cool off. Plenty of water is a given. They also get to roam the yard every evening.
