Arizona Chickens

Hi everyone I have been MIA for a while they found a lump on my left breast and I have to go in 17 days and counting for a mamo and sonagram to see if I need a biopsy then set a time for the biopsy. I am plenty scared right now to say the least. For now I am still working with my chickens and just recently got some Lavender Orphingtons and cream crested Legbars from the Jill Reese line. In the bator I have Lavender Marans French variety and Icebars do to hatch this week. The Marans are next week. Then I will set some Tolbunts next week.

Yes, absolutely! .....but I love it because it's much cooler out and I can still get my gardening done that I haven't finished, lol!

My husband and I rescued this tiny chicken. I have no idea what she is and the people in the forums don't really either. She's just a mix, but really interesting. Super sweet, friendly, but a bit terrorized. She spend the first few days puffing up at everything. Lol

my guess is going to be a black australorp with the dark legs/ beak with dark feathers give me that impression.

Did you take a photo of it?? Was it hard? Or soft?

Hard. I took pics, it looks yellow, but it was an ivory color. I placed the bic pen so you could see the size. Not a small thing to come out of the egg.

I was thinking it was going to be white.. was in the egg white part or yolk.. Anyway, just a newbie, but you can see the her bone indent, it looks like it to me.. Like maybe it was there for a while for it to get hard..?? Do you know how to feel if the hen is ready to lay? If not you hold them like a football, use a finger by her vent, feel for the 2 bone.. If you can fit 1 1/2. -2 fingers inbetween her bones, she is ready to lay.. I normally can tell who is laying by their red comb, however our French Breese has a pale pink comb & is still laying.. Or this could be like you said calcium.. Other that have and more expiences might chime in..

... seeing the pictures makes me want one! Sigh. .. I never realized I would end up with my own little farm with all these cute creatures! I have to say the kids and I really enjoy them except when they don't share the treats of course! We are learning to take two of us to handing out the treats so they all get a fair share.

We "might" have 2 extra's, do you want them because they are quiet? These are sexed.. There is one other person that might want them.. Hand raising them makes them better pet's.. P.M. Us if you are close to being ready..

I was reading this page above at the link I have posted, when I was looking up, ...courtesy of @ChuskaMtns my new orphington fancy chick's
and I thought it was particular helpful for those of us with small backyard farms on how to keep them safe from getting other chicken diseases.

Providing my memory hasn't failed me, I remember our conversation about how you could use a cat litter tray to put a bleach solution in it for use as people go in and out of your chicken area. I think it's a great idea!

What do people think of using shoe covers as an option??
I used to use them in homes, when I worked for a part of Queens hospital in Oahu.

hi im in s.phx. had mine RIR, Barred rock mix, and something else. Since March. they seem to be doing fine. just make sure they have shade, and put the water dish in the shade too. change the water every day, it gets hot toward the afternoon... i have 1 thats just ready to lay soon. . And i have 5 leghorn chicks now. about a month and half old now. . i still have them in the coop, im not ready to introduce em to the free range yet. They will probably beat em up.
