Arizona Chickens

Oh, okay! Glad the little cutie found d a good home! If you are looking for any full sized pullets, there is a feed store down here i Tucson selling 4 month old chicks, Naked neck, Easte egger, Aericauna, Americauna, barraed rocks, and even baby ducks! the whole shebang!

By the way, speaking of places that have chickens: the local nursery/feed store here in Globe (Golden Hills Nursery) has a dozen or so 4 month old bantams of various breeds for sale if anyone is looking for them. The nice part is they're old enough that the cockerels are crowing and you can tell gender. Thought I saw a few cochins, a silkie or two, and some I don't know.

Our duck Lorraine laid this nice size egg today.. also a DF was moving and gave us this birdbath. @Sill came by & helped find the perfect spot. .

It might be the ACE Hardware on 22nd & Kolb? I know they have a substantial supply of chicks right now.

No, ACE only sells baby chicks. I know that OK feeds and Vista Feeds sell full grown (maybe not full grown but probably no younger than 2 months)

Im so glad that Tempe feed and tack do not sell baby ducks or chickens.

This is so cute....... I live in the Tucson area, Iv'e got a Barred rock that I can honestly live without, Her name is Go - Pro. I could ask my Parents if we could trade?

She is quite a friendly bird.

She will peck my dog if she comes to close, and she is 4 times the size of the chickens. I love bantam chickens. I have a bantam Silkie right now, the cutest little poof you ever will meet XD She needs a bantam friend to sleep with her in the same nesting box, especially since her boyfriend had to move out X'D

Thanks for asking about her, found her a home this morning.

Love your avatar chicken

Thanks, I will check into Pratt's & I pm'd @houdiniduck . I don't have any yet, but we are hoping to get a few by summer. I can't wait!

They finished molting about a month ago...
I'm happy to know it doesn't mean she's sick...
I've never seen a chicken egg like that...
small yes, but not the size of a large grape.
I'll keep an eye out and see if it happens again...

So I'm on my way to work, but stopped to check the nesting boxes first...
I'm not sure if this is from my chickens, or a wild bird, that liked my boxes..
If it is from my hens, is one of them sick?
They are all about 2.5yrs old.
.

Those fairy eggs are sure weird when you find them! Even my quail lay them occasionally.

Thanks for having me over! It was fun seeing the ducks again and your other critters and plants.

This egg scale says your 3.45 ounce duck egg is past the extra large size so is a jumbo...or bigger. What's beyond a jumbo?

There sure is a reason why these tiny floating plants are called duck weed!

With the warmer temps the duck weed has been growing again so they can have a handful every couple of days. It doesn't last long! It's funny, the chickens try eating it but loose interest. The ducks will eat until it's gone. When it gets really hot they will get this treat almost daily.

In the back ground is the chickens' sand box. It stays dry even after lots of rain so they always have dry sand to dust bathe in or just grit to eat for their gizzards. I mix a little DE and wood ash into the sand to help keep mites and lice away.
