I wish my chicks would eat all the weeds in my yard....I don't know the name of it, but it has a pretty purple flower with a yellow center & the leaves, stem, etc all have little thorns covering them....even when the weed is tiny. They won't touch it. Neither will the rabbits.I used to have weeds before I had chickens. Now my yard is mostly scorched earth. Those weeds don't stand a chance. Neither does my garden.![]()

My step-mom did this thing she calls the anti-chicken coop. Bottomless box, 1x1 wood frame covered in chicken wire. She'd place that over plants to keep birds out.
Yep! That's the one! Do your chickens eat it????
Great idea for keeping the girls out of the edibles! I'm currently having trouble with sparrows and had to net my raised bed. They were putting holes in most of the leaves and ate the calendulas down to sticks.I wish my chicks would eat all the weeds in my yard....I don't know the name of it, but it has a pretty purple flower with a yellow center & the leaves, stem, etc all have little thorns covering them....even when the weed is tiny. Night shade. They get small yellow round fruits full of seeds for the next generation. Get rid of them before they set seed. Wet the ground and pull them out or flame them often to keep from growing back. Had these in the pastures growing up and the livestock just ate around them. Guess they knew they are toxic.
