Arizona Chickens

I used to have weeds before I had chickens. Now my yard is mostly scorched earth. Those weeds don't stand a chance. Neither does my garden.

I wish my chicks would eat all the weeds in my yard....I don't know the name of it, but it has a pretty purple flower with a yellow center & the leaves, stem, etc all have little thorns covering them....even when the weed is tiny. They won't touch it. Neither will the rabbits.

My step-mom did this thing she calls the anti-chicken coop. Bottomless box, 1x1 wood frame covered in chicken wire. She'd place that over plants to keep birds out.

That's silverleaf nightshade. It doesn't grow in my chickens area, only outside the fence where the coyotes roam, so I don't know if they would or not. It does have a level of toxicity, so if they don't it wouldn't surprise me.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum

I built this over the Easter Holiday. Unfortunatly we are going to be moving and cannot take our chickens with us so I am selling our coop. It has 2 roots 4 ft long inside as well as a auto waterer and 2 large nesting boxes. Plenty of ventalation for the hot AZ summers and the chickens love it. This was built using 2x4's and 2x6's with 4x4 posts in the corners so it is very sturdy and painted with deck sealent to seal it up. Looking for $500 as there is over $300 in material alone.

These pics were from when I just built it, I can take more current ones if there is interest. Feel free to text 623-277-0007

Anyone in AZ breeding Brown Leghorn heritage birds? For my first breeding attempt I'm going to be breeding Barred Rocks and Leghorns, and at first I was thinking White Leghorns until I got a good look at a light brown with single comb. They are certainly some beautiful birds. I have a couple of sources on the Barred Rocks but I've been striking out on Brown Leghorn breeders so far.

Great idea for keeping the girls out of the edibles! I'm currently having trouble with sparrows and had to net my raised bed. They were putting holes in most of the leaves and ate the calendulas down to sticks.

Night shade. They get small yellow round fruits full of seeds for the next generation. Get rid of them before they set seed. Wet the ground and pull them out or flame them often to keep from growing back. Had these in the pastures growing up and the livestock just ate around them. Guess they knew they are toxic.

I was wondering if anyone here would like to have a nice black Australorp rooster? He will be a year old the end of this October. The reason why I am letting him go is because I have a younger splash Australorp cockerel already, and I am working on getting a blue Australorp rooster, too. I don't need 3 roosters. I would like to see him go to a good home with some hens to keep him company.
