Arizona Chickens

FYI, there is a big poultry show in Tucson this weekend (Nov 19-20) at the Pima County Fairgrounds. Best day to go is Saturday. Sunday is not a full day.

Plus a lot of people coop out their birds early and aren't even there on Sunday. Are you entered @MagicChicken ? I have turkeys to process for Thanksgiving, so I can't go

I know! I am really loving how he is filling out <3

and SUCH a narcissist!

That mirror in front of his face? He will stand and stare athimself all period, and then preen. stare and preen and re asses and preen some more XD

I love it.

That is funny & awesome! I'm so happy they're doing well for you. How're the other 2? I know not as narcissistic as Benny, but are they filling in as nicely? Mercury decide to show his-her sex?

I'm going because I love looking at all the birds, but I'm not showing. I've nothing to show...yet.
Me and my wife are going too. Hopefully we'll run into you and the other AZ chickeners down there and we can compare notes. We're leaving around 08:00 or so, so we should get down there around 10:00.

On another note I'm going to try incubating and hatching a couple of days worth of eggs from my layers early next week so they should hatch just before Christmas. I want to get some training with the new incubator so I can fine tune the process before giving it a go with the standard bred birds I got last weekend. I've been eyeballing the Sportsman 1550 hatcher lately too and I'm seriously contemplating getting it. The reason being I want to individually breed the standard birds so I'll have to segregate the eggs/hatched chicks until I take them out and toe punch them so I can keep their lineages straight. The 1550 has 5 trays so I'd be able to hatch and keep separate a week's worth of eggs from each hen in a single session. I'm planning to hatch as many eggs as I can from these birds and since it gets hot quick here in the valley I need to be efficient about it, that's why I like the idea of a separate hatcher that can handle a good many eggs.

Does anyone have experience with a styrofoam incubator?
It keeps bouncing the temperature from 95-112 , That's way to wide a margin to have a successful hatch... and I don't know how to stabilize it.
Also, where in the incubator am I supposed to put the thermostat, the temperature seems to also vary by where the thermostat is sitting...
Any help would be appreciated... thanks
