They would make an interesting highschool group.

with leather chicken jackets and chicken motorcycles and really cool chicken shades

and they all graduated from Polish school and became a motorcycle group the end.

Hello, everyone!

My name is Kevin and my wife and I are just getting started on this awesome endeavor.
We're still early in the planning stages, but are looking forward to keeping 6-10 chickens. We've got plenty of room on our property for a coop and run (and I wouldn't be surprised if we go well beyond a dozen). We haven't even decided on what breeds we are looking for, yet. We do know we are interested almost exclusively in egg-layers (I wouldn't know where to start harvesting/preparing chickens for meat).

Where is a good place to get quality (i.e. healthy) chicks? I know it probably depends on what breed we are looking for, but I am wary of craigslist type sources. We plan to build our coop and run during the winter and then getting really started in the spring.

Hello and welcome! Actually, this is a very good place to start when looking for good breeders. There are a number of us here in AZ breeding quality birds of various breed so once you've decided what you're looking for, send out some feelers.

Is anybody interested in a free, very people friendly, mixed-breed rooster. His name is Harley and he's part EE, part Dorking-mix, part Ameraucana. He's got a floppy rose comb that covers one eye most of the time. (Yes, my rooster has a comb-over.) He carries the blue egg gene and has five toes instead of four (courtesy of the Dorking blood). He comes from a line of strong egg layers, but simply doesn't fit into my breeding program. I just don't have the heart to cull him since he's so sweet and affectionate, and with his more streamlined body he wouldn't be a good supplier of meat anyway. He's still rather young - he hatched March 20th of this year, and shows a bit of inexperience with wooing the ladies but is getting better at it every day.

If interested, please PM me. I'd like to see him go to a good home where he will continue to be loved. He's one of my snugglers.

Hello Kevin, and welcome! I hope that your endeavor will work out well for you. Many of us here in AZ. are hatching chicks at different times of the year, so it shouldn't be too hard for you to find a breeder once you decide on what breed or breeds that you want to have for your flock. Some breed for the meat, some for the eggs, some for the dual purpose, and some for the designer ones.
