Even if you have everything set up to avoid fires while shooting it still happens. Whenever you shoot at the ranges in the military and have Tracer rounds you can see how many rounds ricochet and start fires. A lot more ricochet than actually cause a fire but they backdrops and such are just precautionary and are not fool proof.

Yup, and as a Border Patrol agent, he should have known better. Even us redneck yutt's do that kind of stuff in plowed up fields where there's nothing around to catch fire for a hundred yards in every direction. Heck, we've got farmers in our neck of the woods that know exactly when and how to bring out the weed burners in this kind of weather without starting the wrong thing on fire.

and Banaynaychicken, I'm sure he's probably sitting in custody during all this, or under house arrest. Wishing he could be tossing water to the flames.

I heard that a border patrol agent was the one who started the fire during target practice? I wonder what he was using for a target? I have gone target practicing before and never started a fire, but I shoot at metal target made for it, and there is a good backstop behind it.

He was using exploding targets filled with tannerite. Not a smart idea in the dry desert. What confuses me is that I know from inside sources (we know a lot of BP agents) that the agent's supervisor was there with him too. I've yet to hear mention of the supervisor by the media, but even if the agent was too stupid to know better, the supervisor should have.

Nearly 47,000 acres burned, 100 people displaced along with who knows how many animals, and roughly $5.6 million in fire-fighting expense, not to mention the financial loss to all of the businesses that rely on on tourism via Route 83.....all so some idiot could get his jollies doing something stupid.

And containment is now over 80%.

I agree with you that the agent's supervisor should have known better, and both of them should be held accountable for the fire. If I were one of the people who has been effected by this, I would push to get them both fired. Maybe it would be a lesson to the other agent's to stop the future stupidity of this type of thing. The taxpayers have to pay for all of those firefighters expenses, and some of those businesses that were lost may not be financially able to rebuild.

Off topic...

I noticed this week while sitting in my family room with the vertical blinds to my sliding door to the back patio partially cracked opened, flickering going on. I opened the blinds and two doves were flying in, one had a twig in its mouth. Well, looking at the floor there was a pile of twigs there where the wind had blown them out after several rebuilds.

Guessing they finally got their act together they are now nesting on top of the wall-mounted ceramic patio light (AGAIN). It has a 25-watt pointed amber light bulb that stays on 24/7, so it's probably providing some heat to keep the underside of the nest warm. I look out there again today and she's finally setting, so I don't know if she's already laid an egg or two.

I can't wait for that two-week (?) incubation period and then time for brooding. Should I just get rid of the nest and fresh eggs? Maybe she'll get the hint and move elsewhere. My back yard has been neglected, and the weeds are over two-feet tall, many are already dead.

Then again, the birds just give me another excuse for procrastinating. There are plenty other projects that need attention. --BB

Got to take all of my beautiful and poorly stressed out birds back to their coop(s) today!!!

They were SOOOO happy!! Honk even started running circles in the sand and dust bathing like a mad woman, so was exstatic to be back in her own space with Little, who she had been separated from for almost 2 weeks.

DOBBIEEEEE she got a red, and even though she was the only speckled sussex, *sighs* she didn't make the cut due to the fact that her tail feathers didn't grow in fast enough after a molt. GOSH HECKING SNOOTING

My benny boy got a red as well, a black crested white beat him to the win -_-


Winnie was SO done with fair, but she got a red!

Congrats on all the ribbons! I'm a bit jealous. I miss fair week a lot and its been about two years since I was able to go to the county fair! Looks like you have a nice bunch of birds there!
