Arizona Chickens

I know what you mean about daily basis for those misters. The heat has been horrid here outside Eloy/Casa Grande. My biggest worry is respiratory infections because of all the extra water. Could you use a regular timer like an Orbit by just one day at a time only? I don't know and I bet there are a gazillion out there too for a search. You probably know a little ahead of time about the weather and could maybe program it for a few days, it can always be turned to off - just bouncing ideas. Good luck!

Welcome to the PetCo family... which store are you at (I'm at 915)
And truly... I think you should pursue the photography thing ..... You take wonderful photos....

You know, they havn't told me which store, or even which job they want me to do :/

My interview was Friday, and the interviewer, Alexa, was really pleased with my abilities and how i answered questions, though she offered to let me choose 2 of my top favorite jobs and she would fit me in either one based on my abilities.

I can either be a guest advisory specialist, or I can be a dog trainer. both sound so fun and amazing, though they could put me at the new store coming in on Mary Ann Cleveland Way, (like 10 minutes from my house) or all the way over on Wetmore near the Tucson mall. (like an HOUR from my house)

I just put 9 eggs from my flock in my incubator today, and I will add any eggs that I gather from them tomorrow in it. My incubator is in a spare bedroom that we only use for storage and my hatching addiction. :lau If all goes well, I should be looking at a July 17th hatch. Yes, my brooder is in the house too, and it sits right under my incubator. My young pretty Blue Australorp rooster has been busy with his 5 girls as even the splash hen isn't broody anymore and has gone back to normal.

I actually put a little copper sulfate in the community water container to fight off any respiratory infections, plus feed everyone chopped up fresh garlic at least once per week since it's a natural antibiotic/antimicrobial. The one hen I've been most concerned of losing to the heat, my Bielefelder named Gidget, actually started showing not only heat stroke symptoms, but respiratory problems too. I brought her in the house, added just a touch of copper sulfate to her water and diced up some garlic for her food and she was completely back to normal the next morning.

When you say "a touch" of copper sulfate, what kind of dilution do you mean? Roughly how many crystals of copper sulfate per gallon? Can you use it safely in those galvanized water founts?

On a happy note, I got my first pullet egg of the year today. The little freeloaders are finally starting to produce. Their moms have slowed way down, though. I'm getting 2-4 hen eggs/day out of 11 supposedly productive hens. Some of them are older girls. They deserve to slow down a bit.

Got to love those 1st pullet eggs!

Dang it, lost my Mottled Java "Peepers" last night. She wasn't showing signs of distress at bed time. Hate it when they drop unexpectedly.

@azurbanclucker - sorry for the loss of your Java. Sure wish they would talk to us so we know they aren't feeling good. I loss my old gir (5/6 I think) l a couple days ago. I didn't think she would make it through the heat. She was so uncomfortable and hated being in the house even when we let her roam around. I would bring her in for a couple hours and to eat some egg, etc. She died with a good crop of happiness.
