Arizona Chickens

Hey, has anyone here hatched out eggs in an incubator and discovered 2 developing embryos in one egg before? I candled mine last night and am thinking that I seen 2 separate ones in there moving around. There doesn't seem to be an egg inside of another egg, just the one. If you have had this happen before, do both chicks make it to hatch? Should I be worried, or just throw away the egg now if they will be runts?

Look at I have no idea what I am doing thread toward the end there was a twin egg of a duck 1 made it to hatch , the other passed . So I say keep it you may have 1 or 2 or a dud. Good luck with your hatch

Thanks for your reply. I searched this site for the 2 in 1 egg, and found the duck one that I think that you are talking about. One died as they were hatching, and the survivor was a runt. I decided to toss the egg, because I don't want any runts in my flock like that. I'm not raising the mini chickens.

hi all im in AZ, well golly this spring was freaky hot , so i just started flooding an area under my shade trees , the chickens loved playing in their little pond HA , other wise its not very hot here in Bisbee AZ, so things are going back to normal finally with a storm every afternoon that cools off the air really well & some times it can become down right chilly , but if need be i will continue to make puddles for all my flock , they really enjoy the water & the mud . i also feed them their layer feed mixed with water that seem to help with the heat .

looks like the monsoon is coming finally going to cool it down some, though it will become humid so i don't know how the girls will take this. I have been doing electrolytes, homemade because of all the water they drink, and they aren't eating their feed very well, but i'm looking forward to the reprieve of monsoon and then the final end of summer, i'm already counting down!!

I've run into lots of issues this summer, the girls are really hot despite all that i do but they are surviving. biggest issue is that they are free range and leave the mansion as soon as the sun is lower in the sky although its hot they roam around with beaks open and wings out ranging under the shade, leaving the confinement that the mansion gave them during high sun.

looks like it will be a nice week if the forcast keeps up and it stays around 100 as a high!

I give mine the layer feed with water in it too, and I sometimes either add the ACV or the Electrolytes. If I feed them some treats, I usually try to mix it into that too, so that they eat the feed and not just fill up on treats. I have some new Aussies coming up later this month that are now in my incubator.

I'm waiting for more rain and coolness too. It just sprinkled a bit over here. We really need more of it.

I had a hen going broody on me a 2 or 3 weeks ago. I didn't want her sitting during the heat like that. She finally went back to normal and is back to laying eggs again.

We got only enough of a sprinkle to make a mess of everything after the dust settled. Hoping the next few days will give us some actual rain!
Hoping everyone stays high and dry and the monsoon does give us a break!

Yes, I am hoping for rain, too! I have a pullet left from my last hatch the first week in May, and she's never seen rain before. You should see her trying to puff herself up trying so hard to look like the bigger chickens.

Yes! Broody hens in this weather is a worry I changed my nesting boxes just bc of the heat!

Sounds cute! At least the clouds and wind cool it down some
