yes exactly right & me to i put ACV in my wet feed mixture along with some of my people liquid multi vits, and 6 to 12 hole soft boiled eggs, with the shells & all then i put that all in the blender and mix it with the water i boiled the eggs in since that also has calcium in it ,then i fill a bucket half way up with the egg maker layer feed i get from walmart , and pour all that liquid in the bucket then add extra water until it becomes like cooked oatmeal, my flock loves it, i feed part of it at 2 pm then again at 6 pm just before bed time so they all go to bed happy with full tummies, and some of that wet feed is usually left over for their morning meal , at 6 am i usually toss them 6 cups of wild bird seed & they love that HA, so thats the usual my flock eats, along with the sprouted wheat & barley seed i feed ,plus i add what ever extras something different every day some times a bit of tuna & they get bits of left over cat food the wild cats leave behind ..lol.. and all my 75 birds are out free ranging. its chicken world around here..Ha... but i really enjoy my birds they are my family being all my family are all in the east , except for one son in chandler az & my husband who just passed away months back . my chickens really keep me company . its funny i have cats & birds now since my tiny dog died , but good thing every one gets along just fine...lol...

To increase my hens, I raised 9 chicks this spring, one died- just because FOUR of the 8 remaining were roos - 4! I prefer a flock without roos so I rehomed them all. Bottom line I only increased my hens by 4. Guess I'll be at it again next year!

Maybe the next time you should try to get a few chicks that are already feathered and old enough to tell that they are really girls?

@BlueBaby - that's a wonderful idea! Next time I'll add some of your blue and splash aussies!

Well, the ones in my incubator right now are due to hatch out starting next week. I am planning to keep some girls from it, but there might be a couple of extra's (depending on how many hatch out). It would be towards the end of August before I would have an idea, if you might want a couple then. They would already be fully feathered and wouldn't need a heat lamp, and the girls would be starting to lay eggs maybe in last part of December or January?
