Arizona Chickens

@DesertChic too funny! The easiest match for hen to egg is Dina who is the only speckled egg layer, and punky who has a little calcium swirl design on the point every time lol

Who else has weird tells for their eggs?

I have been so enjoying the cooler weather we had this weekend, and spent more time outside with my flock observing them. Most of them are in the molt right now.

My chicks are now 2 weeks old right now. I am also observing them for the growth of the combs. I am starting to think that my lone splash chick might be a pullet, as there are a few of the other chicks that look like the comb has grown a bit bigger than the splash one. I am not seeing any wattles on any of them yet, however.

Thanks! What store was this?

I stopped one organic brand bc it turned bright green neon when I gave it wet

I would like to know what store that is, too.

It's good that someone posted a reminder (at least for me) about the feed that is delivered at the Tucson site every two months and it is good quality. The location was a little off the beaten path, but found it when googled. I've stocked up on some galvanized cans and lids.

Has anyone checked out OK Feed and Supply on the North east corner of East Fort Lowell/Dodge? Their website was under construction the last time I checked, but they post a lot of their stuff on Face Book for the time being.

And, once again, I'm receiving NO NOTIFICATIONS on any postings for the past several weeks. --BB

I agree and do the same wth my gals. We just went through a HUGE juvenile moult (...feathers...everywhere...for weeks...) :barnie and I gave them half a can of wet cat food today to boost their protein.

I've read about giving them wet cat food to up that protein, but what about the other types of meat? Is it some raw ground hamburger, sausage, or is it cooked? Then again, chickens eat raw things. If they can run around and catch insects, worms, frogs, mice and lizards...

I have one ee that lays light olive green eggs, my Wellie lays a dark egg and the others are varying shades of brown, but shape is the tell there.

We used to get 1/2 a pig, and I had the butcher save all the trimmings and fat. I froze it in ziplocks with string around it, then let it hang in the chicken run about once a week. They pecked it as it thawed, it never lasted more than an hour! It really made their feathers shine! I think the feed does not have enough fats in it, because that is the first ingredient to go rancid and shorten the shelf life.

I was having that problem too, but I think I figured out how to fix it. At the top of the page, in the white menu bar, there's a "watched threads" link. if you hit that, and make all those threads current, you get notifications again when a thread you're watching has activity.

What I think is happening is that you only get one notification when there's new activity on a thread, so if there are several responses in between times you view the thread, you don't get new notices if you didn't view it when the initial alert came up.

it's been working for me since I started checking watched threads, so hope that will help you also.
