Arizona Chickens

Okay, 3 out of 6 green eggs so far...are the others pipping and showing some type of activity? Fingers crossed for you. --BB

No, no sign yet when I checked about a half hour ago. I've hatched so many chicks now, that I don't stand over the top of them no more like I used to do. I let nature take it's course on the hatch, unless they look like they need help. Bobby are you trying to get some chicks from me? :lau

Oh no, these 12 rascals are getting feisty and can already reach the top of the box...time to move them out to brooder #2 in the garage. I do have some hardwire cut to cover the box in the meantime.

@DesertChic I just held the blue nn-Australorp chick in a good light and seen that it has a bowtie on the front of it's neck. I don't think there are many blue NN's out there, are there?

In the APA world of SOP NNs, no, because it's not a color recognized here in the U.S., only in Europe. That said, it's has become one of the more coveted colors among those of us who love our NNs and I know of several people (including myself) who've been breading both blue and splash into their flocks. They're coveted by many, so if you're starting a line of them, you may have a market to sell too. ;) Also, there are some people pushing to get the APA to recognize blue as one of their "approved" colors.

If you're developing a greater interest in the breed (and I applaud you if you do) you should check out the Naked Neck Turken thread here on the BYC as well as a NN Lovers Facebook page you can find here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/185764418533822/

The FB page is much more active than the BYC page since all of the changes were made here, but a few of us die-hard NN lovers still check in a few times per week. The FB page is very active with several people posting photos, inquiries and experiences daily. They're a really good group of people and most of us met on the BYC.

On an unrelated note - My flocks have been in HEAVY molt and laying very poorly for over a month now. My NN pullets have been the only ones consistently supplying me with eggs during the molt, but my three Black Australorps, which are three years old now, were the fastest to get through molt and resume laying, taking only 2 weeks off at most. I truly believe that you and I raise the best breeds for this environment. :love

Wait...you're not hovering over the brooder? How are you not hovering over the brooder? When I perform an incubator hatch I lose massive amounts of sleep for about 23 days because even in the middle of the night I'm hovering over the brooder, willing those little buggers to grow strong and healthy and start wiggling already so I know they're alive inside those eggs!

There is no one here to mess with my setup but me, so just stay calm and carry a big stick... lol

@SonoranChick that buff egg will be your best! Just kidding, but yayyyy!

I remember last year when my girls started I had so many eggs, this year they are molting so no eggs for me,

Speaking of which I keep telling the girls who are mostly feathered to get busy again I'm waiting! Lol
But a break for them is good
