Here in globe we have 3 choices for food Safeway, frys and Walmart. I use frys and safeways digital coupons. We have ace hardware, pinal lumber and tractor supply. So some place in town will have what it want and I can avoid Walmart. I agree that Walmarts meat is gross. It comes in prepackaged they just put it out. Oh and I won't eat farmed salmon from China either.

Talking about Walmart I bought a truck battery with a 2 year free replacement warranty. About 6 months later it tested bad, went to replace it. They charged me a core charge and the difference on the new one. I told them what they were doing was not correct , even got a manager. Boy oh boy was I angry, I emailed corporate. The store I purchased it from contacted me and gave me a gift card for my inconvenience. I was still angry and avoided that store. Well 7 months later that battery died, charging system works fine. I was told no more replacement. WTF I got 13 months out of 2 battery's and they claim no more replacements , don't trust Walmarts 2 year free replacement warranty. I live in a very small town not many other choices for purchasing supplies. I will pay more elsewhere and not support that corporation.
To me, Walmart is just a GENERAL STORE. If you need a car/truck battery, go to an Auto Parts store. If you want to buy a new stove/frig, go to an Appliance Store. Walmart is a jack of all trades, but master of none. Pay more and go elsewhere for your specific application, get some type of guarantee in writing, read the fine print, and you'll generally make out in the long fun. Buying cheap is just putting band-aids on top of band-aids, never solving the original issue.

I visited Globe once, and absolutely loved it. You've listed all the stores I needed minus a Bank and Post Office. City life is not for me and would love to go a slower pace of rural living.

That's why I moved here! The rural life is much better for my emotional well being. Globe is beautiful, most neighbors watch out for each other. Drivers around our town are courteous compared to the valley (Phoenix metro area) I lived there for like 30yrs.

Sorry to go off the beaten pass slamming Walmart and other stores who may fall into that category, but the original post was about unappreciative friends and co-workers who don't realize all the labor involved to do what you do, whether it be for sheer joy or profit.

I thought that Walmart would be the saving grace way out here at I-10 and Houghton Road and it only takes about 10 minutes to get there.

Check your local grocery stores for meat/produce, especially salads/lettuce. Often times, their prices win hands down. I won't buy meat from Walmart with their next day "sell by" dates. What's up with that...selling meat that late? Where do they get it from?

Maybe what doesn't sell at Sams club?

I shop Kroger and Sprouts for everything edible.

I'm a little hot under the collar this morning. Coworker that I've given some eggs to asked me for a dozen and I had to say no because my neighbor asked for 2 eggs over the weekend so she didn't have to go to the store, I gave her dozen and she gave me cookies. Good trade, right? Yes, it was a good trade because the cookies are damn good.

My coworker has an attitude about not getting free eggs! Excuse me? So, I told her I'm charging $3.50 for a dozen eggs, $4.50 if you don't bring your own carton now. I have expenses to cover. She's not happy. She can go to walmart and buy her eggs then.

Too bad that some people are like that and get mad if they can't get what they want, when they want it, and for free. I do give extra eggs to one of my next door neighbors, but they will bring me some feed for my flock sometimes. I guess they feel like they are paying me back for them that way. I don't mind though as it helps to keep them fed, so they get first dib's on any extra eggs that I have.

I'm glad your bunker is developing to more than just a big empty space and was wondering about the egg collection in such a huge area. I don't see where you're going with this just yet, but can't wait to see the final project.

It's amazing what one can do with a few pieces of plywood, a decent saw and some nails/screws...and, don't forget a tape measure. You'll save yourself a lot of money and your risk of injury is minimal when you use tools properly.

I saw online recently a nest box designed for three hens for $45. C'mon, it was a piece of board cut, divided and assembled into 3 boxes. A half sheet of decent plywood would cost about $15. Just think about the possibilities with a 4x4 sheet of wood.

Never growing up with a lot of toys as a kid, I had to improvise and entertain myself fooling around with tools (my dad had a bunch) and scrap wood lying around.

Even starting off with building small bird houses to entice specific small species, the "wood bug" will eventually bite you, and encourage you to take on larger projects, to shelving, book cases, nest and utility boxes, you name it. And it gives much satisfaction knowing that something you built serves a purpose.
