Arizona Chickens

I thought about posting a picture, but didn't know how it would be received. We moved from Ohio a few years ago and I would probably been read the riot act there! So here it is.View attachment 1244631
Any wild predator you jump on with bate hands to save your chckens will limely be received well here. Its backyard chicken forum not backyard wild cats LOL. Well done. You are an honory Roo for protecting your flock.

Yup, around here we understand too well the need to protect livestock and that the law is on your side in these situations. If left to live these predators can simply teach their young to go after lifestock too, and then it's all down hill after that... :(
I kinda freaked out last night after thinking about they might be on the endangered list. I had to look it up real quick. It's definitely a different way of life out here, but we love it! Back in Northeast Ohio where we are from, they are fighting with 2 feet of snow, highs in the single digits and below wind chill factors! We love Arizona!

I'll shovel the sunshine from my driveway any day over the snow. They can keep it! :yesss:

First of all, welcome to Arizona!

Second, well done being a very protective Mother Clucker. ;)

Third, what part of Northeast Ohio? I grew up in Toledo. :)

Thank you for the kind words. I grew up in Ravenna. It is a little town next to Kent. So close our walmart is in Ravenna and the parking lot is in Kent . It is 45 minutes from downtown Cleveland. We are right on the edge the of the snowbelt. Something your all to familiar with living in Toledo! There is a Thai restaurant in Maumee I absolutely love!

You should do a 360 cage, we had a bobcat but it didn't get my girls then we made a 360 so they will always be protected

That is a nice area.i like the cave they built. I think I'll add that in to the plan. I've just started working on an area similar to that. It will be made with pallets, hog wire and hardware cloth. It's such a big area, going to taking sometime to do. It will have the wire over top when it's done. The framework for the fence will be similar to this but 2.or 3 pallets high because my pallets are roughly 4x4. I like the added security of the pallets. Plus my husband can get them for me for free at his work. Cheap and efficient! Right now the chickens are in the fence that surrounds the house.

@Jadesun6 - WOW free pallets!! Another thing I saw was putting a PVC pipe - or something round that rolls when trying to get over it or stand on it. That way if a whatever predator climbs the pallets trying to go over will not be easy, if not impossible. We'd do it to our yard area if we found some scrap type stuff. Wouldn't matter the color - just the larger size I believe. I didn't think to google it for you - probably there! Welcome the AZ and BYC!
