You don't wanna let her raise some babies? I have a young Dark Cornish that looks like she's decided to go broody. She's only sitting on like 6-7 eggs and some of them are from hens I kinda want to hatch from anyway... so I'm letting her sit.

I don't, even though I know she would be a great mama hen. We recently found out that I am pregnant! So I am not adding to the flock anymore for a long while, since we already have a huge addition to the family on the way We are so excited..it's our first! My stepmom joked that it must be all those eggs I was eating lol, they are great for developing babies I guess!

I'm dealing with my 4th broody right now, and she's the most persistent broody I've ever owned. She's a White Rock hen named Mama Lily and has already raised two small clutches of chicks for me. She's an AMAZING mother hen and I learned a ton about raising and caring for chicks by watching her, but she goes broody for about 6 months out of the year, which gets a bit cumbersome. Breaking her is nearly impossible and I always feel bad about doing so, but....chicken math.

Congrats!!! Apparently, baby math is like chicken math to my husband, because he is begging for another one. Beware! They come out and they’re so cute and they can’t do anything on their own. But then they grow up. And they run away from you at the zoo and scream at the monkeys. And the lions. And the cheetahs. And the rhino... (is it obvious we went to the zoo today?)

@SonoranChick Congrats!! BTW @Catwest - I love the zoo - Its my favorite (long drive tho) place to go and people watch - kids do some crazy funny stuff.

So far all the hens that have gone broody on me in the past did it in a nest that was 4 feet off the ground, and I don't have a pen to separate broodies in, so I had to break them up. Don't want little chickies falling and breaking limbs. This one is in a nice little corner spot on the ground so I'm letting her have at it.

@FeatherPugs we love the zoo, too! My membership ends Saturday and I am using it nearly every day this (and last) week in case I decide against renewing. But it was so much more manageable when she was content being in her stroller...

@SonoranChick husbands just don’t seem to understand how much work it is to grow and then raise a child our daughter is just about to hit 18 months and mine feels like if we don’t have another right now that we are missing out on something I just can’t wait until this one is old enough to help clean chicken poop
