Arizona Chickens

I asked this question last year, but don't remember getting a good answer...
Scratch Corn is not good for chickens during the summer...but what about fresh corn? My hens LUV to clean off the corn cobs...

I think corn even fresh can heat them up more bc it takes more for them to process
I gave steamed corn to my big bubus right before bed this last winter to keep them full and warmer

I got 10 ears of corn for a dollar and I'm waiting for the cool down of 50 degree mornings this week to give it to everyone
In the end I think most things can heat them up bc it's just how they work, that's why I think my girls lose weight in the summer its too hot to eat

My husband just loves watching them throw the ears of corn around, and better then that they try to steal it from the tortoise... best entertainment around.

Hello, I hope this is allowed on this thread... I am moving and need to down size my flock.. :( I have 2 black australorps male and female about 20 weeks old I have had since they were babies they are very sweet but I can't have roosters where Im going just hens and these two are very attached. I am hoping to find them a new home soon. I am in the Mesa area but don't mind traveling if necessary!

On the corn issue, I've read different things including that corn doesn't have that much of an affect. I wonder how many of us provide feed with corn in it all year.

Watermelon & cucumbers are a fun treat for them & to watch them peck into..

@BlueBaby may be interested, she works with australorps but I can't speak on her behalf. She should be around soon, hopefully she can help you out or knows of someone who can. Good luck rehoming your chickens

I have been giving the girls frozen fruit (peaches, pineapples and berries) left over in the freezer from our breakfast smoothies. They love these treats on a hot day. I am concerned that it is a lot of sugar though, so I only offer it in moderation. They also get all herb trimmings from the garden daily. I have been steering clear of corn due to the heat. I stopped using the feed with cracked corn in it because they bill it out to get the corn bits and leave the rest in a big mess...like little kids picking out the m&m's from trail mix :gig

3-4 servings. Mushrooms from Oregon, about 1/4 cup.
Cut up 1/4 small sweet onion in a pan w/ olive oil, salt-pepper
Simmer for about 5 minuets. Add mushrooms, peas, cod, handful
of cilantro & cooked asparagus. Simmer for another 5 minuets.
We had dried mushrooms so we soaked them 1st.
We wanted the extra flavor from the water so this dish will have
a bit more water. Pat down the ingredients in the pan & add the
whole duck egg’s. Cover & cook maybe 3-5 minuets for soft boiled.
Then add raw garlic, salt & pepper to taste.
These egg’s are from our duck’s, we rinse the natural bloom off
in tepid water no soap.
