Arizona Chickens

Can I just say I love my chickens! Just came in from power hour left them roosting and they are just enjoyable sweet, Rambita didnt like that i was leaving she had been resting her head on my shoulder roosting and as I left she stood up watching me leave ,like dogs do, it was sweet but strange bc usually chickens just go about their business... lol

Oh and I'm getting 2 green eggs a day and there are new layers coming into play bc of the egg size

They are all green so far, do eggers ever lay blue or pink? I mean I know a hens color is the same but hoping some others might be different too!

If I am right, I think that it is the Wheaten Colored EE's that lay the blue eggs in those.

I have an EE that lays a pink egg and one that lays a medium brown egg so they aren't always the green/blue. I was so hoping my pink egg layer would be a blue since she is so light but nope - pink - beautiful egg, great shape and shell - just pink. Everyone just shakes their heads when they get one. I love it!

If they are all Welsummer mixes, and they appear to be, you'll likely get shades of brown and/or green. Welsummer are dark brown egg layers. Mixed with blue, the eggs are greenish.

Got a question for you. So my black sex link hens started laying again but I have had two eggs without the shell now. Are they lacking calcium? Or is it just this extreme heat we have landed in all the sudden? I am feeding layer pellets now so I am not sure what the issue is. Please help!!

None of mine have ever laid a shell-less egg yet, but I did run a search here at BYC for something that might help you.

Mama escaping the heat in some damp dirt with her 3 week old babies!
On a side question... how long until mama's face and comb get red again? Will that just be when she starts laying? This was my first time letting a hen brood :)
