Arizona Chickens

Yesterday I got 7 green eggs, I've been getting about 3 a day so I knew there are many still not laying, but yesterday was a huge increase. Early morning I saw marshmellow in a nest box doin that rooster thing of making a nest and he literally had 6 girls surrounding him as closely as they could in and around the nest it was so cute!

I have two broodies and the others are climbing into the next boxed in top of them. Smh
My barnevelder Biddy went broody again this week. 4th time since April :barnie I tried the cool water dip twice, and it didn't work on her. So I'm just letting her do her thing and sit in the box...she comes out a few times a day for food and water (and there's a water dish in the nest box). Stubborn little booger.

That's pretty much what I'm doing, haven't tried the cold water dip but maybe I should. If I had room I'd get them each a couple chicks but there's no room at the inn right now.

Yep, got one of those broody girls too.....insistent on being on that nest. I just keep knocking her out and she's never happy. Plus I have birds that just get in there with her to lay their eggs. It is crazy and with the heat!
@igorsMistress I'm working with scaly leg mites - so much fun! They don't die well. You have to coat them so they suffocate. Yes - in the desert they want me to use vaseline or A&D ointment!

I used Crisco, or Margarine. Does same thing (sufficate). I chose not to use Vaseline, although it is not supposed to be all that bad If chickens ingest it. I would see them picking on their feet , and thought an eatable substance was of preference.

@SonoranChick have you worked on the bumblefoot yet?

@FeatherPugs how do you tell yours have leg mites?
I was just about to do a bumblefoot update! The Tricide Neo arrived in the mail yesterday. I will be gone all day tomorrow, so I am using today to get everything all set up and measured correctly, and we will begin our spa foot treatment first thing Wednesday morning :) It will be quite the process, but definitely a good learning experience and well worth it. I am also using this time to stock pile their eggs, as I won't be eating the eggs while I treat them. There isn't much info on egg withdrawal while using this product so I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'm not sure how long treatment will take, but I'm assuming longer for the worse cases (the white leghorn and Wyandotte).
