Arizona Chickens

Morning all, I have to ask as I am trying to tell myself "no" lol, how big of a incubator do you have if you hatch your own? right now I have the janoel 12, it holds 6 of the eggs my girls lay safely.. room to move but not enough to risk cracking from hitting to hard, I've got a friend who has one that holds 48. I'm going to have to admit to having been eye balling either a 24 or 32..lol.. I know I'm going to have plenty of room to add at least another 12 or so this spring..

That depends upon how big your hatching addiction is. I started with an incubator that holds 20-24 eggs, then bought a second one that holds 36 eggs, and finally bought another one that holds over 50 eggs.

I have to admit that it's starting to get bad..lol, right now I am having to behave myself as the time between getting them hatched and then old enough to go to the coop is slim, I'll be leaving town for a few days at the end of May and don't want to stick a house sitter with a bunch of baby chicks.. Now when I get back in June, it will be a different subject.

Start your incubation ASAP. By the time end of May arrives, your chickens will be well weaned:gig and trouble free to carry their own.

Probably a little bit of both? I gave his wife a cockerel and a pullet as an early Christmas present, so they will be needing more girls for that boy. ;)
Sounds like bribery to me.. I've got my first hatch, they are old enough to make the move to the coop within the coop, the second group, I sat 5 eggs, two were not fertile, two hatched and the last one didn't make it, but the two that did, went to a friend who's wanting to start her own flock, now I have 6 more in the incubator and they too will go to my friend. So for the moment, I'm getting the hatching fix without having to worry about raising them.

I have a project going on here with mine, so I haven't been letting the newly hatched chicks go. I grow them out a bit so I can see what one's I want to keep for myself for my project. Then I sell the one's that I don't want to keep. But this way the pullet's are guaranteed to be pullet's for those that can't have roo's. Just don't ask me what happen's to all of the roo's, ok?

I won't ask, but I have a sneaking idea i might know what ;) and it's ok with me, I think over all isn't that the whole point of having chickens? right now, my hatching for others is simply so that she can have a flock and I can have the joy of hatching :) works out for both of us. Are you going to give us a hint of what the project is that you are working on?
