Arizona Chickens

Thank you everyone for the welcome

Yes, I joined the forum a number of years ago, and enjoyed reading posts on many threads and was somewhat active. Then I lost my way only to find my way back now. Cactusrota I am down the road south of Safford in Artesia. My five old ladies include two Welsummers two Easter Eggers and one buff Cochin. I bought eggs off ebay 80 total and hatched them in two batches. I am not much of a chickie momma. Only hatched out 15, but I am happy for now with them. Many of the eggs were cheap mixed breed eggs, but I did have some purebred Marans and Bielefelders. My goal is eye candy in feathers and eggs, and I have a good start. As time goes on I am thinking about adding some Penedesenca blood into the dark egg layers. i also enjoy Naked Necks so I am thinking about adding some into the flock. If the young ones start suffering from the heat to much I will have to start cross breeding sooner rather than later. That is my plan now, but it could change tomorrow.

The Naked Neck's do well down here with our summer heat. I'm really liking mine!

Well let me know if you want any Naked Neck chicks or hens anytime soon and I could probably hook you up. I am familiar somewhat with that area. Have some friends down that way. Got married at the Essence of Tranquility hot springs. :)

Naked necks are fairly popular among this crowd lol. Glad you found your way back!

We had a NN hen a number of years ago, she was one of the family favorites. I have been interested in them ever since. I have been intrigued by how they are used to insert heat hardiness into chicken flocks in the tropics. Cactusroda yes I believe I would be interested in NN Roo sometime in the next year. Maybe if I have something you want we can trade.

If you are looking for any Naked Neck's, there is no shortage of them here on this thread. Many of us have already been mixing them with other breed's to get more feather eye candy coloring, egg's, or even a bigger sized meat bird. So, it all depend's on whatever you happen to be looking for in them.

Shoot, I got chicks of all ages growing up right now. I've got the three chicks from crossing with the black Ameraucana, hatched end of March, and one of them is looking to be a handsome black cockerel. A bunch of Turken chicks from Dunlap hatchery, hatched around April 15th, and I'll be picking my fav 4-5 and the rest will be rehomed or sent to freezer camp. There's looking to be some handsome cockerels in that batch.
Then I've got the broodies!!! Oh my the broodies... Some hatched around mid April, some hatched last week, some are hatching right now, and one more broody should be hatching her eggs next week. Hahaha! I've decided to let the broodies do most of the work for me this year. The majority of chicks that I'm taking care of in grow out pens are from hatchery orders. I may have some Buckeye pullets available in the next few weeks as well!
Spring has sprung!!! :lau

yes I am interested to either buy or trade. I am not a big fan of black in our climate, for no other reason than I don't like wearing black cloths in the summer time. I am going to keep all of the hens I hatched out. I know folks aren't keen on roos, but I have a real nice blue marans roo, that I am not sure what I am going to do with. I also have two wheaten marans roos. I am going to keep the one that turn out to be the most docile, the other one could go. they are just three months old now.

Absolutely! I don't put up with rude roosters at all. I like a happy flock. My boys are good to me, all their hens, and even the little chicks that i let the broodies raise in with them. If they aren't safe enough for all of that I don't want them.
I like black and haven't had any problems with black naked necks in our heat, but have found that almost all the black birds I get turn out small/lean and i'm breeding for sustainable meat birds. The chicks from Dunlap hatchery are all different fun colors, though, so you might like one of them later on. I won't be holding onto extras past 5-6 months old, though.

@BlueBaby I can't say about any clean necked roos, like I said before it seems I'm getting mostly big bib chicks, so I don't know if I'll have any available or not. I'm still not sure what I'm gonna do with the Ameraucana, but the breeder I got her from will have first dibs before she goes anywhere else.
