Arizona Chickens

Hi, I don't know if this post is still active or not.
I live in the center of Arizona just off of I17 on Hwy 69 in the Mayer area. I have 5 chickens and I use a mister system in their run. Sometimes I will spray down their yard with the hose to cool the entire run area down.
I also freeze corn in a muffin tin and give them that. They LOVE it! They also have access to several things of fresh water that I have in the shade in different spots. Hope this gives you some ideas! I love reading everyone's ideas!!!

Hi all :frow

Moved the littles into the big house last night. Our evening routine is a bit of scratch before bed and they were waiting for me at the back door when I went out. I opened the big door to the coop and tossed it in, they went in and I closed the door. They still had at least half an hour to figure out what they wanted to do and where they were going to sleep.

They had a bin in their little coop to sleep under but they were roosting on it instead. By all appearances they roosted last night as well so they weren't afraid of the bigger ramp. The roost is about 3 to 4 feet up so they're doing great.

Everyone was on the floor eating and running around when I opened the pop door and only a couple had a hard time figuring out how to get out, but did eventually. I'm sitting at my desk getting ready for work and I can see them out in the yard running around looking for goodies.

I spent the weekend sanitizing and whitewashing the coop before I put them in there. I liked it with the bare wood, but the whitewash is better than paint I think. No odors either, I put the second coat on yesterday morning. It wasn't quite dry in these pics.

I heard the weather earlier and our temps are going up. I have some waterers and feed bowls to sanitize this afternoon and one more wading bowl to do yet and then we'll be ready for that.

@SonoranChick I was happy to read your hen is doing better! I hope she makes a full recovery.

@Shellysstuff7 have you yried frozen blueberries and dill like that? My flock always liked it. They enjoy melons and cucumbers too.

Have a great day everyone.

I shy away from the frozen "just" corn and freeze a big variety of things from fruit to peas and carrots. Cucumbers have been cheap too lately plus the cucs are good for them!!

I don't generally feed my flick corn much. I bought a bag of scratch with it in there for winter but split it with my son for his flock. Empty on nutrition but man they love the stuff. Like kids with candy!

Hi all :frow
They get all kinds of stuff. I like to give them fresh veggies. I usually only feed corn in the winter but sometimes get mixed veggies as well as fresh and freeze them. Their all time FAVORITE thing is meal worms! They go crazy over them!!!
