I still keep chicken wire around the outer perimeter to keep chicks from wandering off into the "back 40" to get picked off by ravens and what not, but I gave up on keeping them in the proper pens. My flock is pretty easy going and recognize that they are part of the family, so they get away with doing whatever they want for the most part. And they still find weak spots in my chicken wire and I have had to rescue wayward fuzzbutts a couple of times already...
Ignore the messiness... I find all the debris actually reduces the muckiness when the rains come. I'll probably do a big clean up after monsoon is over.

I don't feel like a weirdo now for using a plant saucer as a feeder lol. They're perfect! Shallow and big enough to hold feed for lots of hungry babies. I need to post some updated pics, my littles are 6 weeks and counting already!

In the summer i feed mostly wet/fermented feed which can't go in standard feeders. Theres still some layer pellets in the hanging feeders most of the time but the wet feed goes in planter trays, old cake pans, and dog dishes. We are not ashamed of our cracker ways around here.
