Arizona Chickens

Hi all, I haven't posted here for a long time, but I'm back, due to Chicken Math. LOL

Eggs are from my own girls so I'm expecting a good hatch. Just 8 eggs this time. Girls are not laying too great.

Heat has been brutal here and monsoons look promising, but not much rain. Lightning show was awesome.

I have to update my profile picture, bigger coop, bigger run.
Thanks for reading this and I'll try to participate again.

Welcome back. I'm sorry you lost your whole flock! It's good the offenders have been dealt with.

What kind of chickens do you have?

Hope everyone is staying cool! It’s been brutal but my girls are still laying, with the exception of my Easter Egger. She’s a bit older & not laying much at all. I miss her blue eggs!

Does anyone have any blue or green layers (or pullets) available? Olive Eggers, Easter Eggers, legbars, I’m open! I also have 10 BCM chicks coming in a couple weeks so if the timing is right I could take a couple colored layer babies & brood them together. I have many white & brown layers, all the way down to Marans, but I want to add a couple pastel layers to the bunch!

I’m located in New River (just north of Phoenix/Anthem. Hope everyone is doing great in this heat!

My EEs don't like the heat either and they too are in that 5 year old range. @DesertChic can also breed Naked Necks with the blue/green/olive gene. I have NNs that lay blue, green, green spotted and olive eggs. I love my NNs for the heat.

Thank you! Not a bad idea at all, the EE does seem to have the toughest time in this weather. NNs might be the way to go!

I’m dealing
Thanks! Heat has really impacted egg-laying this year, but since I give the eggs away to my neighbor a slowdown is ok. LOL
I lost my flock of 13 sociable, great layers to a coyote trio last year. Broke my heart. They had free-ranged out back for 3-4 years with no problems at all There were other folks here that lost many more than I did. I do have it on good authority that the trio is no longer alive,

So I have kept this flock in a big run and it just isn't the same. LOL
. We are dealing with a coyote in our neighborhood too. My group is only about 13 weeks so they only free range when I’m around the yard to supervise so thankful that I haven’t lost any. They love to scrounge around out in the yard so hoping he leaves the area soon!

Hi all,

We are getting 2 pullet eggs a day :loveno more store eggs. My chicks are still inside, it's so stinkin hot I'm afraid to take them out yet. We're butchering the last rooster tomorrow morning and hoping there's a Nn rooster in the chicks we have.

Hope you're all doing well! I'm looking forward to the cooler days we have headed our way even if it's just a few..
