Arizona Chickens

I know that the hatching math got a hold of you,,,,, but as I read across BYC,,, it seems there is a shortage of chicks nationwide. There still are some,,, but the choice chicks just dried up, in availability for way into this season.
You should have no problems finding homes for hens anyways. I also think the cockerels will move into the food chain easily as well.
I've talked to the people at our local TSC and they are talking about chick panic buying. so moving them won't be a problem.. I can barely keep eggs for Glenn and I, though things are starting to slow down some. My main flock are a bunch of Heinz 57's..lol, my silkies will probably be a mixed bag as well, I have black, partridge and paints. can't afford to buy and build new coops to give them their own, if I decide to do just one type, I'll move them into my TSC coop for a month or so.

Heinz 57 hens lay eggs as well. If peeps want hens for eggs, and not for show,,, those will be fine. I think barnyard mixes are just fine, and possibly healthier than inbred chicken breeds. JMO.
My girls are certainly putting out the effort, I've been collecting 2 dz. a day.. I'll be out of eggs and someone will ask for a dozen, I just tell them to wait till the afternoon and I'll more than likely have them.

Good morning AZ. It's gorgeous outside! It smells like damp desert and the temp is perfect. We got a little thunder and lightning yesterday and enough rain to get everything wet at least. My son and DIL have a couple of broody girls so I'll be hatching for them since we can't trust the outside temps. I offered to let them use my incubator but they're trying to buy a new house and the current one has already sold so they're packing. Hope you all had a great weekend and enjoy the week!
